Want to start off by saying hello! I am a sex and porn addict. I am new to recovery, I have been attending SLAA meetings and a therapist. I also read Patrick Karnes. He is absolutly the best. With all of that its still not enough for me. I need a place where I can get things off my chest. It all started with porn when I was teenager. Then it moved to sex. Then constant masterbation and sex with multi parteners. Then it went to where i was seperating myself from friends and family and the addiction controlled my thought and actions. It took me till I was married and I could fight the URGES and I had an affair that I realized I had a problem. I am lucky that my wife has stood beside me through the rough times. I have done things I never thought I would do. Its wierd to be in a trance like state and snap out of it and then realize I just messed my life up. I dont do drugs and I dont drink. This is truly one wierd addiction that attacts the very core of your brain and sneaks up on you before you realize it is a problem.

I need to learn what to do when I have the URGES, how to stop from going into a trance. thats my biggest problem now. I no longer look at porn but its the sexual part that still has me hooked.

I just needed to share a little bit of my past and where i come from. I hope there is someone out there that shares the same thing I do and maybe help each other.

" Hi kentuckyblue79,

I, too, would like to welcome you to our little community. I hope you find the understanding, acceptance, hope, and guidance here that you are looking for. There are a number of really fantastic people on this panel, with many years of experience in dealing with sexual addiction. So, I encourage you to use this resource whenever you need a little bit of support or advice.

I delighted that you've already read some of the books that Patrick Carnes wrote. He truly saved my life with his book, "Out Of The Shadows: Understanding Sexual Addiction". Pat has written a number of books on sexual addiction and recovery, and you can get a list of them, along with some additional books that you and your wife might benefit from reading from three (3) different websites: Sex Help (www.sexhelp.com/), Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (www.sash.net/), and the Sexual Recovery Institute (www.sexualrecovery.com/reso...).

Another resource you might want to check out is something called Recovery Nation (www.recoverynation.com/). This is an online treatment program that you can work, free of charge, at your own pace. If you find you need someone to kind of push you along, mentors are available for a small fee. However, if you're interested in this program, I'd suggest you try doing on your own, at least to get you started. If you need a mentor, you can always ask for one later.

Well, there are a few other resources to help you get started. I hope something here helps. If you have any questions, or if I can be of any further service, please let me know. I'll be happy to help in any way I can. Take care, and hopefully, we'll have a chance to chat a bit more down the road a ways. "
