Sex. It runs my thoughts, what i do, and determins how i act. Every time i see a female the first thing i do is undress her mentally. Then i think what i would do to her. This can't be normal. If i had my way in this life all i would do is fuck, run around naked, and fuck some more. It's like i need as many women as i can get. It is destroying my marriage.

I'm married to a wonderful and beautiful woman. All she has ever done was love me unconditionally. She even knew that I couldn't be faithful to her and allowed me to play with other women as long as I was honest and told her what i did. I couldn't even do that because i wanted it when i wanted it. So here i am. She found this site. I hope to find out what is wrong with me here. Am i an addict to sex or do i just not care and what my way? Tonight we are going to a AA type of support group for sex addicts. I hope it works.

" Welcome to recovery. You face a long and often confusing road as you begin your journey, but you are at least headed in the right direction now. I would like to throw out a few ideas that might help you on your journey.

Since you are just getting started in recovery, I would suggest you get hold of a book titled "Out of the Shadows: Understanding Sexual Addiction", by Patrick J. Carnes, Ph.D. This book will provide a basic understanding of sexual addiction and point you towards recovery. You might be able to find the book at your local library or bookstore, or you can order it directly from AMAZON.COM. The book costs around $15.00.

My second suggestion would involve the various Twelve Step groups that are available for sex addicts, groups like the one you mentioned in your original posting. There are at least five such Twelve Step fellowships available for sex addicts: Sexaholics Anonymous (S.A.), Sex Addicts Anonymous (S.A.A.), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (S.L.A.A.), Sexual Compulsives Anonymous (S.C.A.), and Sexual Recovery Anonymous (S.R.A.). If you'll click on the "Recommendations" tab at the top of this page, you will find contact information for each of these groups. On each group's website, you will find a "Where and When" listing which will show every one of that fellowship's meetings, indexed by state, for your convenience. You will also find each groups telephone groups and online meetings. Between the in-person groups, and the telephone and online meetings, you should be able to find two or three groups that you can attend on a regular (weekly) basis.

Next, you will need to get into therapy. Now not all therapists are qualified to treat sex addicts. For that reason, I'm going to suggest that you check out two (2) websites that have information on qualified and certified therapists all across the U.S. and Canada. The first website would be Sex Help (www.sexhelp.com/), and the second would be one that is maintained by the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (www.sash.net/). These sights will at least provide you with a starting point in your hunt for a therapist.

That's enough for now, to get you started. Best of luck to you as you begin your journey. Please stay in touch with this panel and let us know how you're doing. Perhaps someone here can provide some further suggestions for your recovery journey, or some advice to help you through difficult spots. There is a true wealth of experience here, and I'd suggest you use it so that you can avoid a few of the problems that may lie in your path. It's always nice to know a way around a problem before you fall into it. Take care, and maybe we will have a chance to chat a bit more later. "
