I read an article that stated prolonged excessive masturbation can actually cause a chemical imbalance in the body. Some of the symptoms include memory loss, eye floaters, etc.. I have been suffering from a tightness or pressure in my forehead for quite sometime now. I believe that masturbating is the reason. Has anyone experienced any of these symptoms before? And how did you treat the problem?

" Just kidding. The only time I heard masturbation causing problems like this was from a very intimidating nun in parochial school. But seriously. Masturbation and orgasm cause a great deal of endorphans to be relieased in the brain, actually more than heroine if you can believe that. This is by design to help us solidify our atraction to our spouses. Out of context, I could see how excessive masturbation or sex (you can decide what is excessive) could wreak havoc on the brain chemestry causing all kinds of issues like you described.

So, if you believe that the masturbation is causing the pressure in your forehead then stop for a month and see if it goes away.

Are you struggling with Lust? Do you think your masturbation is an addiction? Do you use porn while masturbating? Do you have a history of sexual abuse, or trying to stop sexual behavior but fail to do so over and over? Maybe the focus on the physical symptom is a very good way to avoid asking the real questions you want help with. If your one of those few people who can masturbate without any issues, fantasies, or compulsion, then please tell us sex addicts how to do it. WE NEED HELP!!!!!

OK sorry, I am a bit giddy so please forgive my entertaining myself, but the core of my question is still there.

Are you asking for medical or addiction advice? There are very compassionate people here who get a great deal of blessing by helping, so.... "

" Well I guess I may be a unique case with the symptoms I am displaying. Or maybe no one has openly discussed this before.
Yes, I am a sex addict with a whole host of issues and compulsive masturbation is one. The obvious is to stop masturbating but I would have done that a long time ago if it were that easy. I am in the initial stages of working towards recovery.
I guess my question is more medical in nature. I'm asking if anyone has encountered physical symptoms from prolonged sexual activity and how did you treat the physical problems aside from just stopping the activities. If you have any advice or techniques to curb the urge to masturbate I would appreciate that as well.. "

" I am not a physician so I am not really qualified to address your medical concerns, but your original posting sounded more to me like a variation of stories I heard as a teenager back in the 1960's: Masturbation will cause you to go insane, or masturbation will cause hair to grow on the palm of your hand. In other words, fairy tales. If you have real physical concerns, talk with your primary care physician and see what he/she has to say.

Now, if you are a sex addict as you say, the only way I know to stop the masturbation is to keep on doing what you're doing now: go to Twelve Step meetings on a regular (weekly) basis, keep in touch with your sponsor, work the steps, and keep going to therapy every week. Recovery is a long process. On average, it will take three to five years of doing the things I outlined above before you begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. There is no other way to get through this stuff than to work your way through it. If there had been a way to go over it, under it, or around it, I guarantee you, I would have found it. But there isn't. So keep on keeping on. Good luck! "
