Separation Anxiety as a 22 year old adult!!

I am a 22 year old college senior who will be graduating in May of this year. I have separation anciety from my parents and family. It has prevented me from living on campus these past 4 years of college (I live an hour and some away from my university and opted to drive everyday so I would get to be home with the family), going to college of my choice (I knew I needed to stay within driving distance of home). Now that I will be graduating soon, I am not going to the grad school of my choice because it would require me to move three from home, too far to drive daily. I have a fear that I will never be able to live out on my own and have a regular adult life because of my anxiety and separation issues. Any suggestions?

" Yes, a couple books you could get. One is written for children, but I read it with my son and it is very good. I think adults can benefit from the readings and excercises in it. It's called "What to do when you're scared and worried" by James Crist. It's $10 on amazon.com. Or, if you'd rather have an adult book, one we used in our class is called "The feeling good handbook" by Dr. David Burns (I think). Take a look at them. Best of luck to you! "

" I know how you feel. I'm in my first year of college and I'm away from my family for the first time. I'm so unhappy being away from home and my family that I will most likely transfer to a college much closer to home even though this one is only an hour and a half away. I've only been back to school for three days since break ended and all I want to do is leave. "

" Everyone has different coping skills and it is going to seem impossible at first but gradually the more you overcome your anxiety the easier it gets and eventually you won't have any more separation anxiety. Something that helps me is taking an adavan (but do not take this without talking to your docter) it is an anti anxiety pill that pretty much makes me relaxed and a bit sleepy but it helps me get through the night with out panicking. " It's sounds like you are a very brave young lady. You are bright and have accomplished much already! I don't know how to help because I am on here to understand what you are going through so I can understand my little granddaughter that I am raising. I am also a Christian and am trying to instill in her that God can be her strength, mostly by trying to be a good example and get positive messages of faith and hope through christian music, which she loves. I hope you find the help you are asking for here. I am new and haven't been able to get anyone to describe what this feels like. I have not experienced panic attacks or separation anxiety. I do know it is real and I want to validate it in the right (and most beneficial) way for her. So God bless you and keep your eyes on the Lord, sweetie. He's right there with you 24/7. "
