We are going to invest in the very expensive headphones and CD's that my son uses at his OT's office to aid in his progression for addtional therapeutic listening. Has anyone purchased these? Has anyone purchased the CD's, if so, which ones were the most helpful. Any information would be wonderful!!!!!

We are doing the Listening Program with my son, aged 5. We have only been doing it for two weeks, so it is two soon to tell. What I can tell you, is to make sure you use them as prescribed by your OT. My son LOVED the music and continued listening one night for about 45 minutes (he was prescribed 30 minutes). Well, to say that he was uncontrollable for a few days is an understatement. His OT absolutely thinks it was because he listened too much. So, follow instructions to a T! I will update my son's progress (or lack thereof) as I get a better sense of how the music is working. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the advice, we will definitely keep it to the required 30 minutes! :) His kindergarten teacher said she will incorporate it into his school day, so that is a HUGE blessing.
Do you mind if I ask how long your son has been in OT? Have you noticed huge changes in him? Have things ever gotten worse before they got better? Thank you dearly!~

I am one of the unfortunate ones that didn't get a diagnosis for my son until about 2 months ago, when he was 5 years old. He had been in speech therapy for a while for what I thought was a slight hearing loss. When he started acting out teriibly, I bought the book the "Out of Sync Child" and thought he could have SID. His pediatrician sent me to an OT for diagnosis. Within 15 minutes the OT came out and told me that he had dyspraxia and sensory integration disorder.
So, he has only been in for a few weeks. But, I can tell you that I started to notice a real difference in his behavior after only two sessions. I also do some things at home, particularly brushing and rolling big heavy balls back and forth to each other. When he had the swine flu (that was fun, let me tell you!!!!) two weeks ago and had to miss therapy, he had the worst week ever. Honestly, I am so far a huge believer in OT.....some people think it looks like they are just playing with the kids, but boy does it seem to have an impact with my son! It sounds like you have a great teacher. We have been blessed in that same way. His teacher has made many special accommodations (including taking him out of the school before planned fire drills so he doesn't freak out over the noise!). Please post updates on the listening program and I will do the same!

I have really started seeing some huge positive movements forward with the daily use of the therapeutic listening. He is starting his 3rd week and I am happy to see changes that quickly. We also have him seeing a child psychologist due to a car accident we had about 6 months ago that triggered huge fears, so I am not sure if the OT/psychologist have made the biggest impact as they have basically been simultaneous. But, all in all, I am encouraged and hopeful and we have been nothing but discouraged and overwhelmed the last 6 years without a proper diagnosis. Would love to hear how your son is doing!~
