Hi there,
I'm a daughter of an elderly parent and was wondering if this is the right board? I feel sometimes like I'm trapped with this incredible burden. Posted on 08/17/09, 08:08 am |

That's not to say I don't love my dad - even though he's difficult. He was always stubborn, controlling and selfish. Now that he's getting up in years, it's becoming more difficult. I have five other siblings, but my father won't listen to us. He barely has his sight yet won't allow someone to come in and help him to show him how to live independently in the home. He feels as if we should all just drop everything and take care of him.
It's not that we won't, but even if someone did move in with him, he doesn't realize we all work. Someone would still have to be with him. I wonder if the priest should talk to him. I was wondering about others here and how they're coping with aging.

There is a site "Caring for Aged Parents." You might want to try that site too! You can understand he wants his independence, however, you need to lovingly set some boundaries - you can only do so much and if you get down, how can you help him? I know this is not easy. Ask God for help too - HE is as close as a prayer away!
