My husband passed away 3 years ago and i am looking for another relationship. i tried a chat site and both men that were interesting to me turned out to be scammers and just wanted me to send them money. I don't know what it is about me that makes me an easy target. My age? or maybe that in the profile of the chat site I tell everyone that I lost my right leg above the knee ? I just want to be honest. i walk just fine and do everything i did before. Both times they broke my heart because i believed the lies. So I left the chat site and I thought i would try here. I have met nothing but friendly and honest people here. At least no one that wanted me to send money to them. I'm pretty sure that 60 is the new 30 so it can't be the age thing. it just is a fact that I need to take care of someone. I used to be a social worker so its in my nature. I don't look like the elephant man so it can't be that either. Maybe i am impatient.

" Oh I think you'll find these scammers everywhere! It seems that they are from a mix of various countries and they prey on both men and women. The sad thing is that I have heard a few horror stories where women have sent money and have lost thousands of dollars to some character who took them for a ride.

I think the rule to use is common sense and do all that you can to check a person out from the moment you find someone of interest. To determine if they are in the United States and not married, request their home phone number and it better be a land line, not a cell phone! One that you can do a white pages look up on to verify their address. No married character is ever going to give out their home phone number, not with a wife around answering calls! After 50 years old, no woman wants a guy who is not self-sufficient and in need of money. The moment any person asks for money, end it right there! Granted, there are some nice people on the Internet that are down and out. But what does that tell you about how they manage their money and their lives? Not good. They will always be dependent on you, plus they'll mismanage your money until you're in their same boat.

I'm not sure how many states are like Wisconsin here where I live. Wisconsin has an Internet court system lookup site where one can enter any resident's name and see any court cases for the individual. It's a great site and every state should provide one. It shows everything, divorces, domestic violence, even speeding tickets. I dated two women in past years that while out on dates, drank a lot. I looked them up on Wisconsin's court system and sure enough, both had been recently convicted of DUI's. That ended any future dates with them right there.

So, yes, there are hoards of scammers out there, but with a little common sense and wariness, they're easy to discover. "
