" It may seem an odd answer but can you let yourself cry, I know this is often not possible because in my case when I feel the urge to self injure I often feel like numb in my own mind.

Another thing you can do when you feel the urge to cut is come on DS and try to write down what you are feeling in a post and get others to reply. I find that writing poetry about sadness and depression.

Another thing you can do is imagine that your best friend says she wants to cut and think about what you would tell her. "

" I was wondering this too, and I noticed that when I joined the self injury support group, there was different "treatments" that asked if you have tried them and if they helped. It has using a red pen, like marking yourself with a red marker that can be washed off; ice, as in putting your fingers or hands in ice (for a short amount of time) or squeezing ice, or using an ice cube against your skin where you want to cut (not to use the ice to actually cut, though). It had a few other things, but I can't remember what. I think that on the "home" page of the SI support group, if you scroll down a little bit, on the right side there are percentages of how much certain things have helped people and what other people use to stop/replace cutting. So you might want to check that out too.

And like flyingfree said, you can always come on DS and find support here. "

" Ones I see and here a lot are: rubber bands, red marker/paint/ink (pesonally doesn't help me at all), call a friend/ find another distraction when you feel the urge to SI, get rid of anything you use to SI (even if it is a tool you need, if its one you SIed with get rid of it and replace it so you don't have memories of SIing with that one), come on DS!

If you need anything, feel free to add me and talk to me. -hugs- "

" Diito seraching the board. there are lots of posts with loads of activities

Aside from ice cubes, and markers

I find the key is distraction - on to anything

watching a movie
listening to muisic
typing.I find the journal feature on here excellenet
playing games or doing puzzles
coloring
Exercise(very helpful)

these are just some but for me it's all about keeping my hands moving if they're moving and if my mind's distracted I can fight it most of the time. "

" I didn't know about rubber bands or ice until just a few days ago when I joined here and I have to say that both have helped me get through the week very well. I don't know what will work for you but there has got to be something and I know that this is a good place to get ideas :) "
