hiya, i`ve heard this off a therapist, she said that a percentage of self harmers have used a portable tens machine, and it has stopped them from cutting and the need to feel pain, i don`t know how true this is as i have not tried it myself, but it might be some help to you, be good yes and stay safe......

I don't like the idea of a tens machine, or even rubber bands, but at the start of quitting it's not a bad idea. You've got to make new pathways in your brain. It's used to taking the highway to endorphines through cutting, but you need to build a new road and avoid any short cuts to feeling better. It takes a lot of concious effort, deep thoughts and self control to get the neurons to go a new way. Just like with smoking. If you change the habit and behavior, you'll eventually get your brain to not need a smoke or a cut or whatever. One day you'll be able to get through anything with nothing but yourself.
Crayons are great, you can rub real hard when your angry w/o ripping the paper. Painting is calming and peaceful. Doodles and scribbles are random and fun. Taking a brisk walk or run around the block can do wonders and releases endorphines. Drinking a cold glass of water will help. Eating popsickles too. Calling a friend or family member, but not talking about the issue, just asking how their day/life is going... Getting engrossed in a book series or TV show, so you have something to look forward to. Reorganizing your room, clearing out clutter, cleaning up the house. Making a dinner, cakes and cookies, or planning out your diet for the week. Try getting structure in your life. I like to make my own calandars month to month. Big pieces of paper, a ruler, and whatever crafty things are closest and I can keep my mood up by looking at my own work while seeing what needs to be done is just nice... I like to take an ink pen if I'm really desparate and writing all over. It's a lil hurt and I can see something on my skin. Helps me avoid the blade. You can keep yourself from it, tune into your own wants and needs and focus on those, that's where the best ideas for your recovery will come from.
