PREPARING FOR SAD

Hi everyone

Just preparing for the SAD months :) I know I am bit early, but I am beginning to feel it already, so keeping track of things.

Looks like the months are creeping up on us and that dark nights and mornings are almost upon us.

I am going to TRY and fight this monster every step of the way.

TRY NOT TO DWELL ON THIS ~ THINK ... "I WONT LET IT BE AS BAD THIS YEAR,.... I WILL COPE BETTER WITH IT THIS TIME AROUND ~ TRY HARD TO THINK "POSITIVE" ...... I know it is NOT EASY, but the more you try, the better chance you have of convincing yourself.

How about trying not to think about how dark it is, but try and get out as much in the daylight ~ if that is possible ~ I am partial agoraphobic!!

Lets keep our chin up and perhaps learn from our previous experiences ...... we can only do so much, after all it is a medical condition.

Best of luck and any success stories or ideas to help would be a great boost for others.

Hugs AngelEyezz xx

" Hi ~ You're right ~ It won't be long before we start to see the changes in the light/times.

Today, in Michigan it only got up to 63 degrees!! Can you believe that??? In August, yet!!! Usually, we're baking in the 90's with the air conditioning running full-tilt! We've had a much cooler than normal summer. Very strange.

I'm going to fight this tooth and nail this year!!! If ONLY I didn't have to deal with the Holidays, I'd be fine. lol. But, I'll have to buck up and get thru that too!

Thanks for the boost Angel ~ I WILL cope this year! Hugs, Lee "

" oh man! I agree totally....as I am feeling the effects now and don't want it as i have enough dealing with my fibro, sleep apnea, asthma, T2 Diabetes, and insomnia...argh!!!!! it feels like a full time job and I am exhausted just talking about them.....:(

I too need to get that mini light but the sleep clinic said not too as to wait to see what the past meds would do to help...well it helped set my body clock a bit but now what do i do with the symptoms of SAD?

I pray that the sleep clinic doctor will help me before it blows into deep depression which I am afraid of...sorry for my negative reply but I needed to vent to get it off my chest....and I thank all of you for letting me vent here as sometimes it gets very frustrating...OKAY! time for tea now....chat later guys. " Not too early at all. It is now that I always begin to prepare by increasing my omega 3 and vitamin D. I will soon be using my light box also. I have vowed to get out in the daylight as much as possible. I am always outside during the spring and summer in my gardens and it does wonders for me. I have made a plan to take a walk every day even in the snow during the colder months if just for a few minutes.

I also find that morning meditation helps me get focused for my day. I get especially nervous during this time because SAD can and does trigger my bipolar disorder and deep depression for me. Last year I was successful in avoiding suicidal ideation by working with my psychiatrist and increasing my meds.

I wish all of you a peaceful winter and hope to be here supporting and being supported. Hugs to all. "

" Warren, I suffer with bipolar disorder also. That is why it is even more important that we prepare and take care of ourselves. I find that SAD triggers my BP and I get very depressed in the winter. Last year I did very well at avoiding "major depression". I still was depressed but not as bad as years past.

The light box has proven to be very important for me and I use it twice a day while on the computer. Just dont use it too late in the day or it may cause you to have trouble sleeping. It can trigger the brain to increase serotonin production when what you want is melatonin production at night.

" Waking up in the dark is a stark reminder that it's THAT time of year again. It's unsettling. It's like knowing the big tsunami wave is coming and not being able to get out of the way.

Along with all the other alphabet-soup-labeled afflictions I contend with, it's a wonder I function at all. "
