" Candice I completely understand your frustration. I had my first surgery in 1984 at Shriners hospital in San Francisco. I was born with 14 deformed and missing vertebraes. I could not walk and eventually as I grew (2,3,4 yrs of age) my spine started to curve. I had a second surgery in 1992 (8th grade) because my curvature in my spine had change 40 degrees in 6 months. I so understand your frustration. Was your son born with any deformities in his spine? I would definitely recommend Shriners Hospital for a consultation. Huge success! Good Luck... Your in my thoughts. :0) "

" I read someone's personal story recently about the non-surgical treatment they received by Dr. Min Mehta, who pioneered a serial casting technique that corrects infantile scoliosis without surgery. I don't know what your options are in Canada but maybe you could try to do research and find out who is practicing her techniques that you could see. I know she has had some affiliation with Shriners. If you Google her, you should find some information. Here is one article:

Best of luck! I can't imagine how frustrated you must be at being told to wait that long... "

" I would recommend Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital, they have an excellent spine specialist named Dr. Lewis, many people come from all over for him. Also it's a wonderful hospital with the best care and you definitely won't have to wait till 2010, which is ridiculous ! "

" Candice,
Please, just take a look at Clear-institute.org. Just talk to one of the docs. We offer hope, not fear. "

" Hi Candice, If I were you I would try to go somewhere else to have his surgary done. The longer you wait the more aganising it is and the worse it will get. I don't understand these waiting list, I was able to have surgary within 2 months of my doctor appointment only because I was waiting for school to get out. Good luck to you and him.

Sincerly, Savannah W. "
