back pain

I went to an orthopedist a few weeks ago, and he said my curve was at 24 degrees. A few years ago it was at less than 20. Now, I know it's not very serious, but I do have back pain almost every day. My doc said that I don't need surgery, which I agree with and I'm happy about, but then he just kind of dismissed it.
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what to do to help with my back pain.

" Hi Danielle

I just want a bit of background really. How long have you had scoliosis? What was done for you at the time? How old are you now?

I developed scoliosis around 8 and between the ages of 9 to 16 i was in a plastic body brace upto 16 hours a day. I didnt wear it to bed. Once i stopped growing they took me out of it and then left me alone.

Message me anytime

Take care "

" Ice packs and a chiropractor. He does adjustments and can do needleless acupuncture. It really helps alot. "

" i find this confusing because when my curve was in the 20's they put me into a night brace to try and correct my curve and not let it progress. but that didn't work out for me so i went into the 50's and so i got spinal fusion with 2 rods.... "

" Sorry you are having back pain. I had harrington rods fused in 1985 and have experienced increasing back pain over the years. I find mild exercise helps. Look for a good physical therapist to set up a exercise routine to follow. I also use a heating pad at night. keep your weight down and get proper nutrition. Swimming or hot tub is nice also. "

" I'm not really sure how long I've had scoliosis. When I was about 15, the doctors did a routine x-ray of my back (for spina bifida) and that's when they told me that I had scoliosis. I suspect I've had it longer than that, though.
As far as what's been done, other than x-rays, nothing. I think that the doctors think it's so minor that it needs nothing done. Also, I think they're more worried about the spina bifida since it's more severe.
I'm now 20 years old, and very tired of my back hurting, but also at a loss for what to do. "

" I don't need surgery either, but I do get back pain and I feel stiff sometimes. Try light excercizing, that may help. "
