Doctor says I need surgery

I went to the orthopaedic surgeon this morning and he said my thorasic curve is 46 degrees and my lumbar curve is 34 degrees. He said that is why I am in so much back pain. Then he referred me to the Cleveland Clinic because he knows nothing about syringomyelia. That's neurological. I knew that much. But it's a little frustrating to sit in the office and wait to see the doctor for 1 and a half hours just to see a doctor and have him tell you that he has to refer you out. I understand why, but he didn't even explain anything about the scoliosis surgery either. All he said was it would be done at multiple levels and it involves dropping a lung. Do any of you know what he means by that? I'm sure he didn't go into explanation because the whole thing will end up being done at the Cleveland Clinic, but I would like more info on the surgery. How long a surgery is it? Thanks for any input.

" Thanks for the prayer. One can never have too much. I'm still undecided on the surgery... have to see a neurosurgeon at the cleveland clinic for the syringomyelia before I make any decisions. "
