I had some X-rays of my back recently. My results that I got back say: "There are five lumbar type vertebral segmants. There is concave left scoliosis with the apex at L2 on L3. It measures approximately 12.5 degrees in severity. The lateral views in neutral, flexion, and extension positions show mild diffuse disc space narrowing." I just wanted to see if anyone else has something similar to this. I'm not sure what all that means. my doctors says i may need to see specialialist. she said to see her in one month to see how physical therapy is going. However, about a year ago I did physical therapy and it didnt help. My dad also has scoliosis and he said that physical therapy irratated his back. Do you think I should go see the specialist first before going to physical therapy?

Thank you for any responses and sorry for that being so long! haha

" I think you should go see a specialist first, they'll be able to decide whether you'll need bracing or if PT is enough. "

" Welcome to our twisted group!

Did you get to look at your results? It's pretty cool to see your X-Rays and even though you're no doctor, you can still see that something's not right.

I agree about seeing the specialist first, especially because then they can tell you more about it and give better instructions to your physiotherapist. I've had unsuccessful PT but then did pilates with an instructor who had scoliosis and she showed me some helpful exercises. "

" Thank you to the both of you. I am going back to my doctors on Thursday and talk with her about seeing the specialist first. I did not get to see the xray results so maybe she will show them to me at my appointment...that would be very interesting to see! "

" Definitely ask if your doc has your X-Rays with her and if she could explain them to you. Might give you a better understand of how you work! "

" UPDATE:

I went and had an MRI done. My results are:
Degenerative changes detected at L4-L5 and L5-S1
Small anular tear and central disc bulge L4-L5
Mild disc desiccation at L4-L5 and L5-S1
There is mild dextrocurve at the thoracolumbar junction

I went to physical theropy 3 times the last time I hurt pretty bad. I am not going back until I go to see the Neurosurgeon my doctor reccomended.

Just wondering if anyone else has had something similar to this and what treatment I may go through. I'm just curious before I go to the doctor.

Thanks to those with the advice!! It's greatly appreciated! "

" You should look into Scoliosis doctors that work with Clear. check out clear-institute.org/ny you can find a specialist in just about any state that can tell you about everything non surgical. 12.5 degree scoliosis is not much. I currently treat patients with over 50 degree curvatures that will never have to see a surgeon or get rods put in their back. "

" Sometimes these Physical Therapist need to hear from your Doctor that you need to stay in a neutral position, so that your condition isn't agitated by the exercise. This happened to me and I was being put through unnecessary pain. I hope this helps. Add me, if you would like to chat sometime. "

" HI

I,m in the same boat as you just been diagnosed but getting no where with DR. It was my physio who diagnosed it but i think i,ve had it since i was 10 as all the signs were there just didn't realise then. We didn't get any screening for it at school in Scotland - well i never.I,ve not had any xrays as my dr doesn't see the point - i,m in a lot of pain and take dihydrocodiene and naproxen even that doesn't get rid of the pain. I think i'll just need to ask my dr i refer me to a scoliosis specialist if he'll do it. "

" Hello there i have scoliosis aswell exept i am the only one in my family with it. I wear a backbrace and with a 22% curve now worsen to 30% my doc. MADE me go to PT. It helps in some ways and someways it dosnt. It wont cure your back and yet it wont reallly hurt it. My back felt loser and i was able to bend in some weird ways. so over all i think you should go:)
