I'm not so sure what I have is sciatica. My symptoms are no pain in my back from this - starts in my hips - goes down the back of my left thigh - by the time that pain radiates to the length of the left leg - my right leg starts with the pain in the back of my thigh and proceeds down my right leg. In the sum of things I have two legs that are in immense pain. It doesn't matter if I am moving or still, standing, walking or laying down. The pain does not change or ease up- I take Norco and morphone for this as prescribed by my doctor. I'm just scared it may be something else that he's not looking at. He did an Mri on my back and found arthritis I know. I forget what else he said. Does this sound like sciatica to you? And is there ANYTHING to be done to ease it if I were to not have meds?

Hi Mary,
What you are experiencing sure sounds like sciatica to me. I have been experencing sciatica pain for over a year. What has helped me is a prescription called GABAPENTIN, which specifically is for nerve pain. You may wish to ask your doctor about it.

Yesterday my husband got gabapentin and I tried it. I have to say my legs didn't quit hurting yesterday although it did deaden the pain. I just woke up this morning and although I haven't taken any med for my legs yet i don't feel any pain in them. I would like to get on something besides the pain meds for this problem. I've taken gabapentin in the past and it caused me to eat like crazy and i ended up 209 lbs. So this is a side affect that I am very sensitive too and unfortunately not willing to have a part of in my life - I don't want to talk to the doctors about it until I know if I can control my eating - i worked to hard to lose the weight from that experience. If I find i can control my eating I would love to not take pain meds and switch to gabapentin. So I am going to try my husbands med for a day or two to see the affects I get from it. If all goes well I will change over with my docs approval.
I asked my husband what my mri said and it was 2 things - arthritis and degeneration. I just know that my legs husrt no matter what I do if I'm not on the pain meds. This gabapentin helps tremendously but I still feel the stinger down the back of my left leg but it doesn't hurt - I just feel it. Thank you so much for you reply - I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart - Hugs, Mary
