I just wanted to say Hi and that Im new here. I was just diagnosed with Sciatica today (10/7). I went to my dr and he done some movements of my left leg and my foot starting tingling on some of the movements. I can't stand very long on it and even setting my leg hurts. He suggested a stretching exercise that might help and that I had "bruised" my sciatic nerve, but don't understand how I done it. Im not taking anything but Tylenol because Im trying to get pregnant. Is there anything that can be done about it?
Thanks, Michelle Posted on 10/07/09, 03:10 pm |

Hi Im new to have this too. I was dx'd about 2 months ago after MRI's and Xrays - I take Norco's and pain meds for it - I don't know how I got mine either. Maybe from physical abuse from a man I knew 2 years ago and it's just showing up now. I don't know. Im new to having Sciatica and don't know anything about it except that's what the doc said I have. I also have arthritis started in my back too. I'm sorry you can't take the pain meds but having a baby will make all the pain worth it! Blessings to you and yours. Mary

Hi
I've had sciatica for some time now. MRI didnt show any problems with my back, so neurologist said it was tight muscles pressing on the nerve. I was also told to do stretching exercises to relieve it. When you begin to stretch be careful not to overdo it at first or it can make it worse. I also find that when I sit a lot the muscles seem to tighten up. What helps it to keep active. Do you sit a lot? Does siting make it worse?

Well the doctor finally called my some Ultram last Friday but it never helped the pain. He never ordered anything like a MRI or X-ray, but I went to the ER last Thursday because the pain was so bad and they done an X-ray and told me something that I already knew that my foot wasn't fractured, lol. The pain was gone for now. My fiance helped me stretch and I think that's what helped me. He use to play football so he knew some stretches that would help.

I've been to Prompt care and the ER many times when I don't have my Norco. As long as I take the Norco I feel no pain but when I don't have it I feel such severe pain it brings tears to my eyes. My doctor never has told me about any stretching exercises so I will have to do some research on my own. Does anyone know a place to read up and learn the exercises?

i have it also, my dentist has had it too, and has had the most success with acupuncture. he also bought one of those inversion therapy tables that flips ya up and is suppose to help maximize the spaces between the vertebrae. he found that useful as well.
he tried all the stretching exercises and didnt find that very helpful, nor have i. there are some yoga positions that are suppose to be helpful also. they seemed the most help as far as stretching goes. im going to try the acupuncture next, ill let ya know how it goes. i will look up some sites for you, i have them here somewhere, just have to find them.
