6 months and going

I have had this pain for 6 months now but was only diagnosed almost 4 months ago. They never found out the root cause. I've been in physical therapy ever since with minimal help. It's debilitating. I now almost have no social life. I'm taking my college classes online. I'm overwhelmed with depression and losing more hope every day.
The pain was always just on the left. I assumed when I started getting pain on the right that it was because I put more of my weight on that side when I sit down and things. Now I don't know what to do. When I go to bed to sleep, the aching starts. It's a deep, terrible ache that keeps me up. I feel like I'm losing my sanity because NO ONE, not even my doctor, understands what it's like. I don't know what to do anymore. Why isn't physical therapy helping me? I've already had tests done and they couldn't find anything. Why didn't they do more until they did? I think I may even be getting WORSE with this new developement of pain on the right. It's not nearly as bad, but my legs and feet now hurt so bad at the end of the day. I've had this huge knot at the bottom of my back that hasn't gone away this entire time and it's the center of my pain. My doctor knows this. He won't do anything for me except tell me to keep going to physical therapy.

" If your pain is actually getting worse after all this time, and physical therapy isn't helping, then it's time to see a spine specialist and consider the possibility of surgery. Only 10% of people with sciatica require surgery, but you COULD be in that category, and this is too much of your life to lose to pain and disability. Lots of hugs and good wishes to you--I know how painful it can be... "
