sciatica pain

i have had severe sciatica several times but this time it is not affecting my leg. The pain is radiating across back and right of lower back with pain radiating down buttocks, into hips, groin and stomach. I can barely walk with the pain, especially after sitting down or lying in bed is a complete nightmare. Exercises are mentioned for sciatica but there is no way i could exercise as too much pain. Burning deep ache and also shooting pains in certain positions which feel tight like something will snap. Had MRI in past which showed herniated disc pressing on sciatic nerve. My question really is can you have sciatic pain without it affecting the leg? Or could this be something completely different? Doc gave me diclofenac but scared to take them as too many bad side effects and risks.

" All I ca do is tell you that I read several articles about sciatic pain after reading your posr. It seems that sciatic pain, of course goes down back, hips, theighs, to feet, but can affect groin. I saw no mention of stomach anywhere, but I noticed the sciatic nerve is connected to alot of other nerves. I also read that sciatic pain is miss diagnosed a lot.
Diclofenac is a anti inflamatory that I couldnt take.
I have had some relief with Lyrica.
I myself had good luck with Lyrica. Some relief. "

" totally agree with elton.
Stomach muscles are joined at the back and when the back goes so does the stomach muscles. "

" I've never heard of stomach pain with sciatica. I've had sciatica for 22 years - constantly! And not once have I had any pain in the stomach area. I've looked it up on the medical site online and nowhere does it mention the stomach area. I'm wondering if perhaps something else ALSO is going on??? You may have sciatica but perhaps another nerve is involved besides. I really don't know what to tell you.

Have you seen a NEURO-SURGEON?? That's who you should see!!! Just for a consultation, mind you, not necessarily for surgery ~ surgery should be a last resort, after all other options have been tried!

I'd ask for a referral to a Neuro just for a consultation. Then you'd know for sure what you're dealing with! After that, you can decide if you want to go to pain management, etc. Best of luck & God bless. Hugs, Lee "

" Elton, mind a question about Lyrica? My dr prescribed it for me as well but when I researched it, found one of the most common side effects was weight gain. Have you found that to be true? I'm taking Cymbalta which doesn't thrill me since I don't really need an antidepressant. It seems to be helping but I still get frequent flare ups and need something besides the Cymbalta. "
