Hey,

A friend of mine seems to be suffering from Sciatica pain. She is supposed to give me her case history soon. However, the symptoms of pain she mentions matches with Sciatica. This stated for her a year back. She has tried a few doctors. She seems to have few heavy painkillers for a quite a while now. And most tragically she keeps on telling about ending her life when it gets too severe. I am not sure how I could support her. We are planning to see a high profile general practitioner mid next month. Is it a good idea or should we consult some other specialist. Am too worried that, she may not be able to sustain this pain for long.

" Hi! Always, if it gets too bad, take her to the ER. If it's a choice between losing her life and getting help, the ER is the best place for her to go. MAKE SURE she gets a current MRI of her lower back. This probably won't happen in the ER, but she needs one to make an accurate diagnosis. The nerves you refer to start in the lumbar spine. As for the pain, I'd see a neurologist because they deal with nerves and might be able to help with a diagnosis. Pain management doctors are the best at controlling pain, but they won't help without a diagnosis and it might take a while to get on the right meds. There is NO medicine that will take away ALL nerve pain, not even morphine, but there are plenty of meds out there to help dull the pain. There are many medications that serve different purposes.

If you have any other questions, please ask me, I've been dealing with this for 7 years, so I've been through it all except surgery. I'd be more than happy to help in any way I can!!!

You are a great friend!!!!!!!

Much love,
Lisa "
