Hi everyone, My name is Gidget. My mother in law lives with us. She is Schizophrenic with bipolar and ocd. Please don't take this the wrong was but she is driving me up a wall. I don't know what to do. I am at the point where I am about to leave my home with my kids. My children are at there other grammy's house for the summer and don't want to come back home because of my in law. I get really no help from my husband after all its his mom. He should deal with it.. She talks non stop, wont sleep, picks up dog poop with her bare hands, screams and calls everyone names, stands over us when we are sleeping, blows her nose in my towels, wipes her self with towels. Paces back and forth, begs people for money cigs, takes and uses my personal stuff when ever she feels like it. Touches every thing. Reads things over and over again not to herself but to everyone. Talks to herself answers herself. Thinks aliens live inside her and bats are in her room. Calls my kids mother fuckers and assholes. Rakes the dirt till 2 or 3 am. I am sooo stressed out.. Today I woke up and she was gone only to find out she hitchhiked a ride to church and back.. UGH!! I can't take it no more. I am sick myself with lupus and anxiety and other things. She is making me feel worse. I am in chronic pain almost everyday. When she gets to screaming and acting irate I flare up worse. I just want peace and quiet and my life back.. Her doctor wont change her meds. He never calls my husband back. She has been put in the hospital 15 times this yr. They say she is stable to go home. Which isn't true. She knows how to fool people. She also was in the state hospital for a yr. She goes to day program and that don't even work. If we switch doctors then she can't go to program. Then I get no kind of break. I am the one stuck in the house with her babysitting her. Does anyone have any advice for me on what to do.. Some days I feel like I'm just going to snap or end up mentally sick myself.

I don't know where you live but try www.nami.org. They have support groups for family members. I am going this week and I can't wait. This whole situation is so confusing and I am hoping to get some understanding and tools to deal with this.
Good luck to you

As mentioned nami is a great resource. Have you thought about speaking to a mental health case worker or service worker? (We have them here in Canada, they are like social workers but focus primarily on issues of mental health. Often times they can help guide family's in the right direction)
