I already got SSDI, the pdoc I am sure dx'd me with schizoaffective disorder, my dx goes back and forth between BP1. I applied without a lawyer and was approved within 2 months.

I had SSI for over 10 years. It is a pitiful sum. In addition they make it hard for you to rise up out of the poverty. If you make money they reduce your payments. If you have cooking facilities they reduce your payments. If you recieve financial help from your family, they reduce your payments. The social services and clinics can be second rate. The system can really hang u up. You are also labeled disabled when you are in the system.

this may sound like im off my meds and if so may be but i think they psychologicaly profile who they give ssi to in order to predict predetermined outcomes they use in some kind of social expiriment and this may fit what 1awl said. ive been on it for four over four years
