I haven't done it as formal therapy, but it sure helps me informally. I am pretty convinced that the bulk of my own illness is a result of the fracture between humans and the other species of the world. I won't speak for the rest of my species, but this old nut job NEEDS that connection. Stepping away from the human vanities and connecting with other species is the most reliable medication I have ever found.
Horses most definitely qualify.

I have met a few conjurerers who do equine-assisted therapy.
In order for these types of therapies to work, I think you really have to be opened to it. Probably not the best path for cynics, skeptics or the overly rational types.

hehe.....delicately put fata. :)
i completely believe that animal therapy has an impact on the depressive side of things, but for schizophrenic symptoms, i don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell, to be honest.

i say let all the pretty horses go and repopulate in areas protected ... im just not into the whole harness animals for our needs thing ...its a culture that we just dont need to hang onto any more...like circus animals and the hole Vegas make me jump thru a flaming hoop head trip....

Agree with mojo that its not going to do shit for the psychosis--BUT also yes it does much for depression. And I have MS....though it hurts to ride its somehow very soothing. I think like arfie too...animals want to help us and we should want to help them. They calm me, they're better company than most people, they're honorable, and they're beautiful.

P it's called equinepsychotherapy in Oz http://www.equinepsychotherapy.net.au/
A bit confused on it myself as it's like a day to 3 days therapy tops. I only skimmed and think I've got the flu the list goes on that one but get the feeling it may be in the early days of experimentation. Although unlike most of the others think there maybe something in it. The grow program in Oz ie mind over matter and If you ever done the swimming with dolphins bit is a magical experience. As for caz he's just being a troll as he owns a dog.

The only thing I have heard is therapy for disabled kids. They are majestic, animals. Took a lesson once; great experience. Would do again, no cash.

That's really interesting. Thank You for opening my eyes to a new form of therapy. I might look into it to see if they have this in my community since there are a lot of 'horse people' out here. Cheers!
