You know how we don't look sick? Well I even fooled my GP at my physical. I had filled out a questionnaire prior to the exam circling joint pain, fatigue and various other things. She knows I have RA- has seen me at my worst.
So I'm sitting on the table after the exam and without seeing any blood work or anything she says- well you look great! That's what you want to do - keep your RA in remission because you know it doesn't go away you can only keep it in remission. I had a lot on my mind- had just had an incident with my son before I left for the appointment so I didn't want to get into it but HOW DARE SHE? By looking at me sitting still on the table she is saying I am in remission? Did I not say I have joint pain and fatigue? Did she know my hands and wrists hurt constantly? Did she watch me get off the table stiffly and watch me gingerly get my legs moving again? This is remission? Posted on 11/06/09, 09:11 pm |

Seems to happen a lot. My recent labs were good, but my primary Dr., whom I do rounds with where I work says, "your labs look good, you must be doing good..." so then I go into how my toes hurt all day, fingers , shoulder and now jaw is acting up. Why do they have to go by what labs say??!! Again, having this disease is something else. People just don't have a clue what it does. Frustrating.............

My GP won't even acknowledge my RA. She just insists I have chronic pain but nothing else. Funny b/c I went to the Rheumy on my own and am now being treated w/ mtx for mild RA. I would rather catch this nasty thing early then wait till joint damage sets in for me. Some GP's just are not all that good.
Good luck w/ your GP. I just avoid mine unless it is something really simple that I need an antibiotic for right now. Chris

dont you get tired of hearing that. thats how come i know they really dont read our charts all the way through like there suppose to. that is ridculous for her to say something like that. the majority of the time when i go see the doc i really dont fix myself all up anymore i take a shower put a jogging suit on and a head bandana and say the hell with it cause when they would see me all put together(not relizing how long it took me to get myself to look like that) it throws them off cause there going off of looks and in reality im in so much pain and tired from just gettin dress. i no your upset i would be to cause it makes no sense what so ever.

Wow, seems like a lot dissention between so many on this site and their doctors. I cannot believe it, you certainly should not be treated this way. In defense ( although there really is NO defense) of the doctors, I think they too are stressed and blend one patient into the next trying to fit in as many office visits that they can a day. ( $$$). I hope you gave your GP a piece of your mind. Don't you wish thee doctors could stand in our shoes for just 24 hours? Sure would make them look at our disease with open eyes. hugs, marcia

It is tough having this disease, I was lucky that one of the doctors in my primary's office saw me because my doctor was not in that day and he picked it up right away that I had RA and sent me immediately to the Rheumatologist.
