musculoskeletal sonogram done

Well I had this procedure done yesterday and it was very cool. It looked like the surface of the moon with craters on the screen to me. The doctor said there's very little joint damage which is great news. He said there's inflammation, synovitis that shouldn't be there since I just had a dose of Orencia a week ago.

I told him I still had an upset stomach and headache from the Orencia a week later and he seemed a little startled. The previous rheumatologist had prescribed it and I told him about the side efffects, but he didn't say anything. The new doctor says I can't take it any more with that reaction, especially since the reaction gets worse each time. I go back in two weeks to get all my lab and other test results and see what's next. I wonder why more doctors don't use the sonogram. He said you can see what's happening in the joints two years earlier than it would show in an xray. Of course I haven't seen the bill yet, that could be a factor. Maybe all insurance companies don't cover the procedure.

So far I like the new doctors, but we'll see how things go. I'm finding it a little hard to trust anyone after the 1st two doctors I saw. I'll be glad to share about the good, the bad and the ugly if anyone in Central NJ is hunting for a rheumatologist. Just PM me.

So who knows what comes next. I've been on all the TNF Blocker injectables, mtx, prednisone, Orencia. Guess I'll find out soon!
Take care all,
Sandy

" How awesome that you got the results so quickly - and cool that you could see it all - great news on the little damage, too.

Am hoping this new Rheumy puts you on something that will help you out - AND starts using his listening ears when you tell him things (although he seemed to listen re: your side effects, so that is a good thing!)

keep us posted!

" I was on Orencia for 2 years and my reactions got worse each time. THe last one I had 3 weeks ago, I was down for 2 days after. I'm switching to Symponi, will get my first shot next week. Its a monthly injection. I hope to blog about it here so others will know how I'm doing with it. "
