I had the second part of a root canal done on Wednesday. I now have more pain than before. I called my dentist and he perscribed an antibiotic. I have more problems with my teeth since the RA was diagnosed. Does anyone else have this problem? Yikes! I may have to puree` my burgers tomorrow - I mean today.

Oh no cakeicer I am sorry to hear about your pain. I had really bad tooth problems when I stopped taking my pain meds. It was so bad it sort of spread from my upper teeth to my cheeks. I hear you! Hang in there. *hugs*

I have been having problems for some time now too - very painful but I never really linked it to RA.
Just recently a friend was telling me about a documentary she watched on TV about RA - she seemed to think they were linking oral / teeth problems to RA.( vica versa)....I am trying to find the documentary. Once I do I will share with you all. Hope your pain eases.

I've had lots and lots of dental work done, root canals too, just never connected it with RA. You've given me something to think about! Perhaps reductions in saliva (dry mouth?) makes us have more decay? I'm not sure I've read anything on this, but sounds totally plausible.
Any one for a 4th of July burger smoothie????? Take care, Sandy

I also have had a Root Canal last Year. The Pain is awful, but does go away in aweek or so. You are just so sore right now. It will get better. I'm not a Dentist, but I also don't think it has anything to do with RA.
Hope you feel better soon. Bigi

RA can have an effect on your face.
I have been diagnosed with RA in my jaw & face. I can get mild to extreme pain in my jaw (top & bottom) and my cheek bones, and I also get swelling - I often look like a puff fish !!! :-) It would be worth checking out, as I have heard of people having uneccessary dental work done because they thought it was their teeth causing them pain not the RA.

I didn't have any mouth or jaw issues till I got RA in my jaw - TMJ. Then I started grinding my teeth because the pain was so bad. My dentist finally made me wear a night guard I was grinding my teeth down past the enamel. I have been using Sensodyne toothpaste for years, which helps the pain.
My RA is under control, I can open my jaw up without any pain, but the grinding is still there, and I still have to wear the night guard. The new ones are quite comfortable, although they do cost a bit of money. If you are still having pain after your root canal heals, you might want to change toothpastes, and get a night guard.

Thank you All! The pain in the tooth with the root canal has eased up a bit, now the one directly on top has started. If no improvement by the morning, I'll be putting in a call to the dentist ...again.

I have had periods of extreme throbbing pain in all my teeth that my RD insists is not RA and my dentist cannot find any dental reason for it. It is very frustrating.
Also now I am having oral surgery for a small lump on my gum that when touched makes a tooth hurt. Nothing can explain it- no problems detected with x rays and exams. So they say it has to be cut open and looked out and to see what it is- infection? or otherwise.
