Dropsies

Over the past 5 days to a week, I have been dropping everything. It's like as soon as I pick something up, it just slips out of my hand (fingers). Last night I picked up my camera, and I didn't even get to switch it on before it left my hand and went flying across the room and onto the floor.
Anybody else get this? I'm not liking it. Posted on 07/01/09, 10:07 am |

hi, B!
i, too, tend to drop things. and, yes, when i start to pick them up they do tend to sometimes fly away! (i swear they sprout wings!) i've noticed my hands get stiffer whne the dropsies start. but it comes and goes...no rhyme or reason. so, i mostly use both hands to pick stuff up. please be extra careful with the lil man--he's way too precious! hugs, brat

Yah, so what of it? What are you going to say to an old man, who can't hold on to your name, let alone a fry pan. Oooo, sorry about the camera. Hope it survived. If it went flying, that sounds more like throwing than dropping.
Yes, I do get the dropsies, but they come and go, and I don't have any clue as to when or why.

Bistro, I too have the dropsies. In the last year I have been told that I have lost much of my muscle mass especially in my left hand. I have no strength left in either hand and lifting a gallon jug is out of the question. Hope you camera survived! hugs, marcia

I get the dropsies too. Even worse, I get the "oh, crap the knife slipped out of my hand and chopped my finger on my other hand". My family starts the car and prepares to drive me to the ER for stitches when they see me pick up a knife. lol

Hi Bistro:
This was one of my first signs, as well. I always thought I was just a Klutz but found out that this is one of the symptoms of RA. Things just seem to slip out of my grasp...often. Now, it comes and goes. I am still clumsy but, if I focus, I don't drop things as much. I agree that you might consider seeing a neurologist to check on the shoulder and the ulnar nerve, etc . Hope it doesn't last too long for you. Meanwhile you might want to practice asking for help....sigh.

Hi, Bistro!
I'm sorry you're having this problem. I've had this happen to me too. I never knew why though, and I just thought it was me. Lately, my left hand is swollen in the morning, and I can't bend my fingers for awhile when I first get up. I also have very sharp pains going through my left hand, and wrist at times. Hope you feel better soon. Keeping you in my heart, thoughts & prayers. God Bless. Somuch

Hi Bistro, With the strength and agility I had in both my hands (due to my prior occupation), you'd think I wouldn't have this problem. I drop so much stuff that I started adding more milk to my coffee so I don't scald myself. Now that I hear that so many others have this problem also, I think I'll try to invstigate it further.

Yes, me too! One of the early symptoms for me. I just drop things all the time. It always for some reason has to be something glass onto a hard surface for me. LOL!
My grip strength is going downhill fast. I have also noticed when playing my dd's video game that my response time (eye/hand) sucks. :(
