Simponi

After a year of false starts with other drugs - nsaids, dmards and biologics - I started on a new one last weekend. Simponi is injected only once a month and it was the least painful injection so far. I had allergic reactions to Enbrel and Humira. Not an injection site reaction, but full body itching like I wanted to tear my skin off. No rash. The specialty pharmacist explained to me that Simponi is made from humanized cells instead of mouse cells and that there were no preservatives and a much smaller chance of any reaction. It was only recently approved for RA. Has anyone else had any experience with Simponi yet? I so want this to work! So far nothing but it's only been a week so I'm hoping and praying. I told my rheumy before he started me on Simponi that I was getting very discouraged, but he says there are still other things to try. I guess no one wants to go the in office infusion route, but I'm sure most of us would stand on our heads and wear purple every day if we thought it would help! LOL Hmmmm maybe I should try that.

" Hope the new med works for you. Actually it is not that bad going to the doctor's office for IV treatment especially when you have been through Enbrel and Humira and they stopped working for me. Even though I work full time, I have it worked out os that I have time off from work to go.Good luck to you. "

" Two months ago I started on Humira which was added to everything else that I was taking: Celebrex, Plaquenil, and Mtx. The Humira really did the trick; so good in fact I haven't had to take any Celebrex for the past month. Due to insurance issue that is to lengthy to type, 3 weeks ago they started me with Simponi. I have to agree with you...the injection was nothing close to the Humira injection. I do feel that I'm getting the same results with Simponi that I did with Humira which makes me very happy. Still no Celebrex (month and a half now). Also, for those that are interested to know they do have a very good patient assistance program for those that having a stuggle with finances. Keep looking up.....it just might take a little longer for it to "kick in." Good luck to you....we all know what you are going through. "

" Thank you VERY MUCH for sharing the name of this new drug. Never heard of it.

I have been though Humira and Enbrel as well all with Meth and Relefain. Enbrel & Humira both stopped working for me after about 2 years.

I am currently on orencia and praying like you. After SIX MONTHS it finally does seem to be working!! But if it didn't I was going to try Rituxan and this sounds better. Much prefer human cells to animal! YUCK! I was really scared of r MANY reasons.

Very good to know - thanks again and my prayers are with you that it works. Do you take MTX as well, most all of them suggest it as a "cocktail"! "

" Toby, it looks like your our team tester on the Simponi. I'd heard about it on the news a couple weeks ago. I've been very curious about it's impact. My fingers are crossed that this works well for you! Lisa "

" Hey Toby: How is the simponi working for you? My Rheumy just gave me a sample for me to try next week. I have tried all the old standbys (MTX, Enbrel, orcencia, rituxan, remicade and most recently humira) plus plaquenil and arava with no luck. It would be nice to see something work....

thanks and I hope you have a blessed day "

" My rhuemy wanted to put on Simponi but my insurance wouldn't cover it unless I was also taking methotrexate in combination. I've failed on Enbrel and Humira. The last time I took MTX it was 10 years ago in combination with Vioxx (remember that one?) and it was okay but I felt tired all the time, my hair thinned out and it made me very sick to my stomach. I'm not excited about taking MTX again, but I am looking forward to a new biologic with lots of potential. "
