I think I overdid it- this weekend

I was on vacation for the past two weeks. Tried to get my house back in order since it has been truly neglected due to a number of factors. Yesterday I felt good in spite of the heat and humidity. Just took my second dose I took a Tramadol for the impending pain approaching and went outside todo what I like to do best is gardening. I weeded, I mulched, I water plants. Also inside I cleaned the fish tank, I steam cleaned the living room rug. I ironed for about 3 hours in the wee hours of the am. I was in so much pain, I could barely walk back into the house from outside. I took a jacuzzi bath with the jets going and took another pain medication. Needless to say I know I was overdoing it,but I just wanted to put a dent into things. My neighbor's MIL came across the street to tell me how nice the nice the front yard was looking. I was so proud but; I know I should have paced myself better.Today I did some touch up work and I had to resort to Nycenata for pain. I will remember when working outside or inside to not let the pain and stiffness get to that point again.

Isn't it amazing how we can overdo it for "us" yet for someone without RA, we'd just feel like it was a hard days work?
Hope you wake well.

I feel I over did it this weekend also in a different way. My 11 yr old performed (cheerleader) before the dodger game yesterday. So the family n I went to dodger stadium sun was strong, parking lot is huge. So all the walking and the sun done me in. This morning I couldn't even get out of bed. Painful, stiff, sore joints. I know what you mean by over doing it, I wish you feel better soon.

Can I join in, Sisters? I went to the Outlet Mall Saturday and shopped at two stores and I've been in terrific pain ever since. Thank God my son went with me. Just walking from the parking lot into the shoe store, I was hurting so bad my son had to help me put on the footies to try on shoes. I was already having a lot of back pain and I knew better than to go shop in that condition but I went anyway and now I am paying the price. I've never been one for pain medication but I have been hitting it for the past two days.
The good thing...I bought two pairs of Easy Spirit Traveltimes for $45 (great sale). It's the only shoe I can get on my RA swollen feet and they look good enough it's not embarassing to be seen in them. I'm having an epidural steroid injection for my lower back tomorrow AM and I am in so much pain, I am actually looking forward to having it done. I hope I get as much relief as I usually do from the ESI's. Gotta keep smiling and keep on going. Hope you all feel better soon. Hugs//Frances

It's funny how "overdo" has changed meaning so much! Used to be I would overdo it after a full day of intense physical exertion. I once did a Shochu-Geiko which was 48 hours of martial arts, yoga and tai chi training and thought that was overdoing it. Now "Overdo it" is a trip for groceries, vacuuming, or making a family dinner. Sending good thoughts that we all can get closer to the old definition!

McGranny,
Have you ever thought of using those electric chairs they have at stores? Then you could shop for awhile without so much pain. It could give you some freedom until your meds start working better. I think you can get one for home also from Medicare.

Ilovehuskies, yes, those electric carts are nice, but unfortunately where I was shopping Saturday, they don't have them. Thanks for your thoughtful suggestion, though. At home, I do pretty well with my cane and furniture placement where I can grab onto and sit down when I need to. I can see the day coming though when I might need to invest in some "wheels" and not the kind the teenagers refer to. Lol.

I know how you feel, yesterday I went shopping for a couple of hours. nothing to strenuous, just a wee wander around the shops with my ever present walking stick but by the time I came home I was so sore and tired I could barely stand. and this morning, I ache all over, even the tops of my feet are sore.
hope you are feeling better.

Hi Guys, thanks for your replies. Sometimes we think these issues are individualized. But by conversing here we see how similar we are. NC granny, I am glad you still have your sense of humor. I guess we have to learn to pace ourselves to see what we can do to be able to do a little more day by day, one day at a time.

Lol. My overdoing it is definitely not predictable. Some of my triggers are: standing on concrete, repetitive arm motions (vacuuming, scrubbing), and being stationary. If I vacuum one room at a time and put something else between for an hour and then do the next room, I'm alright. Long road trip? Get out and walk around every 90 minutes or suffer the consequences.
Amazing how just a tiny bit 'extra' results in overdoing it. My; other compounding factor is stress. I had no flare for weeks, then I turn in a loan app for more farmland and ZAP! Hands don't work well, lower back inflamed. Sigh. At least now I know what's going on and can treat the symptoms
