Can I take over the counter cold medicines while on methotrexate, predinisone, and folic acid? Also I like the wellness tea from celestial seasonings but I read on it today the warning not to if you have an auto immune disease. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

" I do. But always ask your doctor first. I also drink a lot of different teas. But again, always go with what your doc tells you. Good luck. "

" I love tea too and i think they are mostly ok but the wellness or cold flues ones probably have echinacaea or the like which can cause flares for us :( just think anything that strengthens your immune system isnt good for us since is our immune systems attacking us. "

" Wow, good point about the wellness teas causing inflamation - never would have thought of that! Yeah, my doc said to bring a list of anything I take - if it's a supplement, cold medicine, etc. Also, if I'm sick enough to need a cold medicine, then I'm not to take methotrexate that week and to let the doc know. You may want to check w/your doc about that as well. Lisa "

" Rather than wait for the Doc, here in England A qualified Pharmacist at the chemists where you want to purchase the remedy is qualified and happy to give such advice.I am on methotrexate and it was a pharmacist who tol me not to take Gin seng as it boosted the immune system..which the MTX was trying to suppress.I find the best remedy for colds is keep warm, lots of vitamin C,and moan to anyone who will listen!Good luck.
