Just wondering how many of you get the flu shot? It is that time of year!
Always wonder if it won't trigger something or if it is better to have it and hopefully not get the flu. Opinons?? Thanks......... Posted on 10/02/08, 09:10 am |

My oinion is absolutely, get the shot. They don't use a live virus, so you won't catch the flu. It might trigger a response, but it is generally mild, and it won't be flu. Prevention of flu in an immune compromised body is a big deal.
There's a "discussion" thread, started by D101492, and last commented on 9/23/08. You might want to browse through response there, to give you some additional input.

I was told when I was having infusions that we should get the shot. I am going to again this year.

Working in a very busy clinic, I opt to get the flu shot every year. I have had Bronchitis X2, Pneumonia X2, Laryngitis, and frequent URI's in spite of strict handwashing, face masks, and anti cold remedies. I also have developed asthma in the past couple of years so flu vaccine and pnuemonia vaccine here I come.. First in line.

Get the Flu SHOT. They DO use a live virus for the nasal mist. The shot does not contain a live virus. However, consult your Rheumatologist first to discuss and also to determine if you have any egg allergies. I got the flu shot and will receive the H1N1 when available. I'm on Humira and with a compromised immune system it seems like a no brainer to get the shot rather than the flu and it's secondary infections.

Even before RA, I always got flu shots. It just makes sense being a mom of 5.
Last week I got both the H1N1 and the seasonal flu shots on the same day. I was a little concerned, having just started to feel a little "better", that it would somehow burst my bubble. But not really. Just some soreness in both arms. My rheumy highly recommended both shots for people on immune suppressors like MTX and biologics. Jess
