No Health Insurance

I resigned from y job this week, giving up my health insurance and all income. My RA has been flaring on a regular basis due to the stress put on me from a supervisor. I know that she was making demands on me so I would resign, I was not a dependable employee due to RA with Fibromyalgia causing me to be absent. I had FMLA that covered me from termination but when you are criticized and humiliated for bad job performance it makes it difficult to come to work and act like nothing is wrong. I am now scared that I will not be able to get the medical help I need for my RA and I was denied Medicaid because I am not disabled. I am meeting with SS on Friday so maybe it will help but it will be a long time if I receive disability benefits if I am approved. Any one out there that knows of financial assistance for someone like me? I live in Kentucky and I have been online searching for resource groups but no luck yet.... thanks for any ideas.

Sharon,
I don't have any advice, but I can sympathize(sp?). I lost my insurance in April and can't afford the COBRA. So, basically I am in the same boat. I am not bad enough to qualify for any disability assistance, so there is no sense in even trying. I was thankful that my insurance was good when I had it, but now am regrettful that the cost of COBRA would be over half of my unemployment monthly. That would leave little for the house payment and, hell, food would be nice...lol. I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way. Kim

I am really sorry that you were forced to make this decision.
There are legal ramifications for creating a hostile work environment, but I don't know about KY laws specifically. I had a supervisor in another department (in 2001) pull me aside right before I left and tell me to call a lawyer. That they had had a manager's meeting and the company lawyer came in and was instructing them on how to preserve the best interests of the company. She had said that while they didn't name any names, I was one of the individuals that they were talking about. I'd been injured 4 months earlier and was still in treatment. I spent 6 hours that morning (I worked 3rd shift) calling lawyers and eventually found one who would speak with me for no charge. We went through all of the logistics and in the end I decided not to pursue it. It would have been a lot of time and energy that I didn't want to spend, when I could be using that energy to focus on me. I found out a month later that another employee in a similar situation did pursue it and won. I will keep you in my thoughts. I wish I had more advice. Sometimes we have to make unfair choices for the greater good of our well being. Personally, I think that there is a special place in hell for those who treat others poorly. Especially in the face of disease. Karma is a b!tch and if we are lucky, we get to see it slap them in the face. Take care of yourself the best you can and put only good energy into the world . . . it will come back to you! {gentle hugs}

My husband lost his job and insurance the same way. Talk to your doctor. I don't know what med's your on but sometime the comp. will help you with the cost and sometime the doctor will too. My husband's Dr's wks at a free clinic and told him to start coming over there. Good Luck!

See if Kentucky has a state high-risk pool for insurance. If you have a RA diagnosis there's little chance of your buying an individual insurance policy, whether you have the bucks or not. My husband is in the local state pool. It's not cheap, but it is discounted if your income is less than 400% of the poverty level.
I'm sure it was a tough decision to make, but that kind of stress will eat you alive. I hope she'll get hers.
