I am 29 and was diagnosed with RP about 5 yrs ago. I was told to only drive during the day. I never noticed or had trouble driving at night. But the tests showed my vision has diminished. Living with RP has been had. I have a regular specialist but am always scared to see him, I want to keep driving. Well I just got the news this past monday that I can no longer drive at all. It has been hard. I knew this day would come, I just didn't expect it to happen so soon. I feel numb right now and coping with this is so hard. This condition is hard period. Just need some extra help from someone who understands.

" I'm sorry to hear that Tme80. I went through the same thing last year. I did recognize I was having issues with people or even cars popping-up out of nowhere.

Do you know how many degrees of field vision you have. I'm at 20 which makes me legally blind, so I had been driving well under the legal limit for some time. I live in FL, and the limit is 140 degrees.

I checked NM and it is" 120 degrees in the horizontal meridian, with at least 30 degrees in the nasal field of one eye" You can check each state here: http://www.lowvisioncare.com/visio...

I know how tough it is, I had to stop working in my career at the same time. It's been about 11 months, and I've learned to get around, I also moved to an area where I am close to many things I like; beach, restauarnts stores, and close to a bus stop.

Hang in there, you're not alone...

Mike "

" I developed what is believed to be RP at a much later age. In reverse, though, at 25 - I COULDN'T drive due to other health issues for many years. So, I know how difficult it is to just have a life - be it getting to work, shop, social life, etc. Driving was a gift once I was able to but now, despite my finally overcoming one health issue, I'm now worried that at any time I could face same as you. I live every day worried that I could soon be told the same. I have no advice to give - just understanding and my support. "
