Hi I am new to this group. I have had RLS since I can remember (before it even was given a name) I am now pregnant for the 2nd time and the RLS is driving me insane I can's sleep relax and or sit for long or short periods of time. My arms are even joining the party. I was just wondering if any one else found that the RLS got worse with pregnancy and if they found anything helped. Thanks!!

" I have read in many places that RLS is common in pregnant women, but in most cases leaves when the pregnancy is over. In your case the pregnancy is probably exacerbating an existing condition. "

" I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. My doctor said Ambien could be taken during pregnancy, but when I tried Ambien it didn't help the RLS.

Just curious - when you had your first child you still had RLS? How did you cope then? Were you on any medication? I'm desparate to get pregnant with our first child but can't get off the Requip! "

" This is a very hot topic for me as I was not told I could take anything when I was pregnant (and then I miscarried) so now I'm very nervous of how to tolerate it through another pregnancy when it happens. I would love to know some more ideas. I take Ambien now and it works great to get me to sleep and keep me asleep to bypass the endless RLS. Let me know if you find anything else safe because that is a big concern of mine, too. Good luck with your RLS. *Alina* "

" I had trouble during my last pregnancy. When I was nausious I had it worse. I wonder if it was attributed more to my magnesium or potatsium levels. I heard that Muscle problems can be attributed to low levels of those. I started eating more bananas and taking my prenatals religiously and it helped. I find I get antsy when I am sitting on the sofa too long. Going to the chirogractor helped me immensely. My doctor said to stretch out my calves before bedtime and that helped too. "

" Hi there, I don't know how I missed this thread . . . Glad to find others in this situation to share with! I too suffer 24/7. It started at week 20 during my pregnancy and never went away . . . I was allowed to take .5 mg of ativan per day, and eventually went on antidepressants at week 30. My obgyn and GP were no help- thank god for my psychiatrist. I also walked from 1-3 hours per day.
On the RLS.org board, there are references saying that oxycodone and methadone can be taken during pregnancy. Methodone works great for many people and is taken at a MUCH lower does than the dose taken by addicts. There is a lot of data on this because of all the pregnant addicts that have been monitored. However, I am told many docs won't prescribe it. Here are some links:

Also, Dr. Mark Buchfuhrer, a well known RLS specialist has a website with letters from RLS sufferers at RLShelp.org. They are not categorized so it is hard to find the pregnancy letters. I can post them or send them if anyone is interested. "
