Radiation treatment?

My RCC went stage 4 in April of this year. It took 3 months to determine it was RCC and not small cell lung cancer due to location of tumors. I was on Sutent for 2 months (until today) but tumors grew and increased in number. Dr. is talking about 2 weeks of intensive radiation and then a different medication. If radiation is not an option (he's checking with radiology) he then suggest a clinical trial which pairs CCI-779 with Bevacizumab. Has anyone had any experiences with either-or radiation and this trial?

Thanks,

Al

" My hubby had radiation treatment on a tumor in the pelvic bone and femur. He was told that the treatment was for pain management only, that radiation does not shrink RCC tumors. "

" My largest tumors are in and around the lungs and are constricting air passage. My doctor did say that radiation is not real effective in RCC but thought it might be needed in this case. That's why he was conferring with the radiologists. We were told we'd hear back later today (Friday) or 1st thing Monday morning with their opinion. Thanks so much for your reply!! "

" Hi Al
My partner also had radiation, for a pelvic RCC tumour, but, again, only for pain relief.
However I know someone else with RCC who had it for tumours that had spread elsewhere - I believe it was because they were still quite small at that stage.

wishing you all good luck in the next stages of your treatment "

" Al,

As a point of reference, my husband had radiation treatment after a tumor was removed from right under his ribs. The treatments were painless but after 2 years, his skin is still tanned in the area that received the radiation. We were told that the radiation would kill any remaining cancer cells in that area. All I know is that after two years, there are no new tumors there. On the other hand, he has had tumors in the lung and lymph nodes and had surgeries to try and remove those tumors, but they didn't try radiation there. Perhaps location of the tumors is a part of that decision as well as other factors.

I wish you the very best Al.

Linda "

" Thanks, Linda! I'm meeting with the radiologist today and we'll see what he says. My tumors are in the lungs and chest area, so who knows. I'm also meeting with another Dr. tomorrow for a second opinion. "

" So glad to hear that you'll get a second opinion. One can never have too many great minds working for them. I am praying for you.

Hugs "
