Done with Sutent;;;next axitinib vs. Nexvar

I had a CT scan about 2 weeks ago and my nodes had increased by 30%, so the Dr took me off the Sutent. Man does it feel good to not have the side effects. I have been on the Sutent for about 9 months.

I am looking at another clinical study that is axitinib vs. sorafenib (Nexavar). Anyone have any experience with either drug?

I am getting a bone scan and brain scan this week and should start one of the drugs the first week of November. I am praying for new drug as I think the side effects are less. Axitinib does not let the tumors grow new blood vessels and that stops their growth.

I am still very positive and plan to beat this demon. Hope everyone else is doing

Cheers,
Gary

" Hi Gary,

I admire your positive attitude. That's half the battle with this cancer. I'll be anxious to hear how the Axitinib treatment goes. I'm not familiar with it...but anything with less side effects has to be a major plus.

Hang in there. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Love, Ingrid "

" Dear Gary - my hubbie was just diagnosed recently so I'm not familiar with Axitinib other than it being successful in treating breast cancer and RCC. Wishing you the best with the treatment. Your amazing attitude is a big part of the fight - Take care and G-d bless, Carol "

" Hi Gary
As you may remember, my husband is on the pazaponib trial. This drug was recently given a 10-0 approval by the panel which precedes the actual FDA approval. So far it has worked for him. It operates very similar to the Sutent though, but has milder side effects. Don't know if this would be considered for you. after it gets approval. Don't know too much about the others, but heard Nexavar is a good one.
Glad you are getting a break from the lousy s.e. at least.

Did your daughter (or was it your son) get married yet? Mine was married two weeks ago and wedding went well.

Glad you are staying on the upbeat and positive side of the road.
Seeing my husband in this daily battle, I know just how difficult it is.
You guys are all heroes in my eyes. Hang tough, stay strong.
All good wishes coming your way from here in the wilderness of NJ.

" Hi Gary,
I just wanted you to know your attitude will take you so fa,r attitude with great positiveness is the only way to go with this cancer... There are so many newer drugs plus the older ones too &, drug trials to choose from, that it helps keep that attitude up there and just knowing you are a figher is so important,... My fiance also has mrcc, and was d/x 15 months ago, he is on iv infused Torisel weekly and is doing, excellent, he working full time and his lung mets and rib met have been stable for over 9 months now and he feels really good...We too are fighters, and always will be... I just wanted to say it's so good to hear such a wonderful attitude, you sound do much like myself as we felt the same after the d/x, as we both do today...
Thanks for sharing,
Becca Anne. "

You gave me a giggle. "Always time for a funny" is what my husband always says! Hope the scans do not prove to be a 'no brainer'.

And by the way, how is the dog feeling?
cheers to you too

" Gloria,

The dog is doing good and is 8 years old. So, to meet that goal I need to take care of myself. My thinking is the dog will last another 5-7years.

Life is good and I plan to live it.

Cheers,
Gary "

I was on the trial you are thinking about. I was randomly selected for Nexavar. I was on Nexavar for about 5 months, most of the time at 1/2 dose due to side effects.

Wednesday I dropped out of the trial because Nexavar was not controlling the tumors. I had about 25% growth in 6 weeks.\

" Dave,

Thanks for the relpy. Sorry to hear that Nexavar did not work for you. If I recall you were on Sutent first and then Nexavar. What are you doing now?

Hope you are doing well.

Cheers,
Gary "

" Not doing anything Gary.

There is another trial coming up that takes Afinitor and adds an experimental drug to it to see if the test drug makes Afinitor even more effective. I'm trying to get into that trila if it starts soon.

If it does not start soon, I'll probably go on Afinitor alone (identicat to Torisel, but oral rahter than injected).

Small chance I may go on High Dose Interleuken 2

Luck to you in the trial, Gary

Dave "
