It can be so hard to cope with the d/x of Kidney cancer, especially learning ways, helping your parners and yourself without losing yourself doing it... Being a caregiver myself, it's so easy to put all focusses on your partner, and getting overwhelmed, not knowing where to start, and everyone makes mistakes... I needed some extra help even after i have lived 14 months with this disease especially just tying so hard to help my partner live with his disease too, because all in all the reality is it's our disease too ...I wanted to share with you all, a book that i found in the library, that has helped me so much and which in return, has help me see my partner starting to open up a little more at a time..
The name of the book is... When the man you love is ill, by Dr. Dorree Lynn & Florence Isacs... I hope this book will help others the way it has helped me, this is just a suggestion, but seeing such a difference in our lives today, passing it on to others is the right thing to do.... I hope this will be of some help, to others that feel the same way i did.... Have a great day to you all !!! Posted on 10/05/09, 05:10 am |

Thanks, Beccaanne. I'm definately going to look into this book. Sometimes the dynamics are so confusing, trying to balance the independence one moment, the neediness the next, and then to try to relate to your man in a relationship kind of way, instead of a caretaking way, it's all so confusing! Allowing independence, but then having to deal with the consequences of his desire for independence. Trying to understand, but not being let in to the whole picture. Being affected by the whole picture, but only being allowed into parts of it. Confusing. I do so appreciate the recommendation, on my list of things to do today - pick up the book at the library! Maybe I'll run there, kill two birds with one stone...

Hi Becca,
Yep...this is a very tough journey for all of us! I, too, will check out that book., and appreciate you telling us all about it. Hope Tim is doing well. Ray is complaining of pain over his left kidney area. Needless to say....this scares me to death, and him too. Thankfully, he has an appointment this Friday with the neprologist and the oncologist on the 14th. Please pray it isn't anything serious. Love, Ingrid
