"Accidental" Symptons?

I've been home just over a week now - left nephrectomy - and doing pretty good I think. My tumour was found early at about 4 cm and hadn't gone anywhere yet thank goodness. I went for an abdominal ultrasound as we suspected gall bladder issues - no issues with the gall bladder but my left kidney must have lit up like a light bulb! CT said cancer and surgery - all in about 3 months. For others who discovered their tumours incidentally, what were your symptons? My surgeon says my stomach issues are NOT related to the kidney tumour but I just wonder what others have experienced? I guess I'm hoping I still don't have more issues to deal with if my stomach problem does't go away - the ever present - maybe it's cancer dilemma? I'm interested to hear from you.

" I had intermittent pain in right side. Dr tested for every disease known to man (and some still not discovered) and finally when all else was "Negative" and cancer the only remaining possibility, he tested for that.

And BINGO!!!!!!

" Hey you,

I am 6 weeks post surgery and am still having major stomach problems. Nausea, pain and even vomiting on occasion. I saw the surgeon today and he said it is all normal as he had to move bowels around to get at my left kidney.

And the jerk said that it was fine that I was nauseous and had trouble eating as I am fairly overweight.

I had tummy troubles before the surgery, the only thing I noticed is the bruised feeling toward my back is gone with the kidney gone.

HOpe this helps,
Rae "

" I went to the doctor on Dec 1, 2008 for an upset stomach. The CT scan caught an intestinal blockage due to 2 hernias I did not know I had along with a suspicious growth on my right kidney. On Dec 29 the cancer and kidney came out. My guts hurt like hell for a few weeks because the surgeon said the had to move my insides around a lot and they don't like being moved. By a month after the surgery I was pretty much back to normal except for the lifting restrictions they had me on. The pathology report said the cancer had not spread. I consider that one hell of a lucky stomach ache. "

" I see everyone's is slightly different but with a very common thread!! I agree with you Dick - after 2 weeks of feeling sorry for myself and figuring out where things were at I decided I had a very lucky upset stomach - there were no other symptons at all except for being tired - and who would blame that on much besides a busy life and being almost 50? I'll sure pay more attention to my body signals in the future that's for sure. "

" Hello Poirier!

My husband had no symptoms. However, on a routine exam, a little blood was discovered in his urine (not visible to the naked eye). We then saw a urologist, who did a CT scan. That's what showed the large malignant mass in the right kidney. It also showed two kidney stones. The doctor said that the bleeding was from the kidney stones, which was a blessing. Soooo, guess you'd say my husband's was found by accident too.
Wish you all the best.
Ms. Grace "

" You and I were lucky. I went in for back pain and found out I had cancer. I guess you will just have to wait and see if you stomach gets better but for now you will be very sore. I dont have a gallbladder but after my surgery my bile duct where my gallbladder was flared up and showed a stone stuck in there. My pancrease also flared up for about 3 months. I am now 7 months out and feel much better but I still get tired. Good luck to you "

" I spent about a year going to the gastro and gyn for back pain. Gastro did a colonoscopy and ct. They found the left kidney mass on accident withthe ct. I am 11 weeks post op and the back pain is gone. Some accidents are blessings! My urologist also said there is no way the pain is from your 2 cm mass...it grows too slowly to hurt. I know my body though, and my kidney hurt! "

" Some Accidents are blessings - I love that phrase and I really think it sums up all of our experiences here as far as RCC. 2 weeks post op for me today - I won't say my tummy is all settled by any means but the pain med is hard on it -so I'm blaming it on that for now. Time will tell. Thanks everyone for all your replies. "

" My husband went in for back problems. When they told him he had two ruptured disc and they also found a tumor on his right kidney. He is having surgery on Monday the 6th. He is a nervous wreck. I'm more nervous about taking care of him after the surgery. I have MS and tire so easily. We he sleep alot? He's the worse patient ever. We've been married for 37 years and I can usually help with the nerves, but he's such a pessimist and I really don't know what to tell him to put his mind at ease. "
