cryo ablation was a mistake

The biopsy yesterday resulted in knowing the mass "IS" kidney ca. and Tom should find out tomorrow what kind of cell.
The cryo-ablation of his left kidney was six years ago. How we got sucked in to doing that...I can't remember! He has been researching, as I, and he's about decided to go to The Cleveland Clinic foundation for second opinion and diagnostic tests. He's talked two days w/ the medical conseriege there, and is feeling hopeful about their help. I have had health issues that I've gone to both Mayo and CCF, and Tom says he liked the way CCF treated me. Their kidney/urology cancer center is called Glickman. I haven't mentioned this before, but I've had two blood tests lately, that say "I'm" in Stage 3 renal failure. I didn't even know I was in stage one and two! My PC doc's nurse calle me one day, and told me to not take my arthritis meds, ibuprophen, Aleve, aspirin, etc. and sent in a new RX for muscle relaxer so as not to take Flexeril anymore! I'm waiting on the latest results of blood tests, and if I'm still in the same boat, I'm getting a Nephrologist! We've just been in "medical HELL" the past several weeks! Thanks people, for the kind words and advice. Sarah, for Tom Posted on 06/23/09, 06:06 pm |

Oh, darlin! I am so sorry to hear the biopsy report AND about your kidney failure. You both have so much on you. Going to the Cleveland Clinic sounds like a wonderful idea. How long will it take to get an appointment there?
By the way...you are one beautiful lady, Sarah! Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself!! Love, Ingrid

Some good news for "me". Apparently stopping NSAIDS, etc. worked and my kidney function is back in normal. Guess I'm a Tylenol girl now!
Hubby went to Oncologist yesterday, and it was de'ja'vue AGAIN! Just like the uro who didn't know we were there for a biopsy...the onco didn't know why Tom was in HIS office! I talked to the gal who did his CT scan, and assisted in biopsy, and she SWEARS she personally sent the office his reports and scans! Tom had brought some pictures of his scans for the last three....showing progression that seems obvious to the untrained eye. The onco made copies of these...that's ALL he DID!! He told him that if it were in his left quadrant kidney, soft tissues and back muscles ONLY, that while it would take a whole team of surgeons including reconstruction of abdomenal wall, he "might" have a chance. However, if it's in his lymph nodes (which it is)or elsewhere, it "Isn't treatable, or operable." I told Tom, "You know that's a lie". So we've washed our hands of that whole group from that hospital and are getting another onco from Sacred Heart who's office said would agree to work with any suggestions from Cleveland Clinic. The wheels surely grind slowly when you're stressed and begging for even a modicum of efficiency!! Thanks Ingrid....later. I'm turning into a pumpkin....I get up at 5:15 a.m. and work for the US Navy

Hi Grandmasarah....first of all, I am so sorry that you are in Stage 3 renal failure! Without so much as a forewarning. I am so sorry that your husband has been given such a prognosis. You sound very smart, and sound like you are not going to let this ride without turning over every protocol as possible. Support and prayers to you! Lonewolfe

Thanks dear, I have to say that my last blood test says that I'm in "normal" ranges for the kidney's. I guess that stopping the Rx. meds, and otc drugs was what I needed.
Tom got the apt at CCF within a few days. He found out it was Wednesday/tomorrow, July 1st, last thursday, and he and daughter left Monday. I talked to him on my way home from work tonight, and they are there, having a pretty nice time, actually. So the waiting begins.....
