First let me say I am so sorry you are facing this beast. I lost my left kidney in December 2011 to RCC stage 3 at the age of 41. I was out of work for 5 weeks but it took a couple months to really feel back to normal. I had lathrascopic with hand assist, not sure what procedure you are having. Depending on what they find will determine further treatment. In my case I follow up with CT and Xrays every 4 months. My first was in April and came back clean.
This is a really great support group. There are many who can tell you what to expect and offer support. Please keep us posted and know you are being included in my daily prayers. Stay strong. You can do this.

Stay strong you will get through this. I am 45 and had a radical on my right kidney. The recovery is taking longer than I hoped. I walk 3 miles a day now and it still hurts sometimes. The key is , your body will tell you what to do, listen to it!

I just had my right kidney out 6/20. My surgery was done laproscopic. I was very nervous and anxious in the days leading up. I had to sometimes take control of the anxiety and do some breathing and relaxing techniques. The morning of my surgery the preop nurse really helped relax me. I got 2 iv's and then after I was asleep they placed an arterial line in my wrist and put the foley in. Not sure if the extra iv and art line are common but they were ready for me to have bleeding problems since I was on blood thinners and had blood clots in my lungs. I was pretty comfortable with iv pain meds except when I had to move. My 3rd day I started oral pain meds and reg foods and went home yesterday. Moving is getting easier and I'm not really using much pain medicine at all. Sorry that my response is so long. I wish you well with your surgery.

When my husband had his radical nephrectomy, we requested an epidural along with the general anesthesia. That was kept in for five days. As a result, he experienced very little pain and discomfort. It took him about two months to regain his total strength. At the time he was 69.....so sure you'll do well being so young. I'll be praying for you, and trust in God.
Hugs from SC, Ingrid

I am 46 and I had a softball size tumor on the right kidney tumors on both adrenal glands spots in the tissue and lymph nodes as well as several spots in the lungs. May 31 i was cut from the sternum to an inch below the belly button. They removed the right kidney most of both adrenal glands a bunch of tissue and 28 lymph nodes. I was up and walking 2 hours of coming out of anestesia. I was out of the hospital in 4 days and back to work in 3 and a half weeks. At my 4 week check The surgeon said I was way ahead of the curve on recovery and my oncologist said that after the surgery my immune system kicked in and started shrinking some of the larger spots in my lungs even being off my sutent. Now I am back on sutent, feeling great and my wife and I are heading for Jamaica July 18. I have had everything taken care of at the Mayo clinic in Minnesota.
