I have 2 sonograms that indicate a questionable solid exophytic mass from the mid pole of the kidney with faint peripheral calcifications and a cyst in the mid pole of the left kidney,the other sonogram shows a 1.3 hypoechoic lesion in the upper pole of the left kidney. the dr are doing nothing, one3 wants me to wait 3 months, I have lost 15 lbs in 3 weeks , have bad back pain and sereve fatigue, the nerphralogist talked about running alot of tests, but thses dr won't do anything what happen to earlt detection? I was in the hospital in the misst of this and one dr told me probable kidney cancer, finally I talked on into an mri, why are they draging their feet, is this a really rare cancer, by the way the 2nd ct showd nothing, according to the radiologist but the first one did, I also have a lump under my rt knee cap, it hurts to kneel, any cancer centers in siuth fl that are good ,it this was in my breast someone woulld be doing something, is because I am a women I am soo upset thanks sharon

Sharong I don't know where you are but I want you to know that there is terrific meds out there if you do have kidney cancer. No one should be dragging there feet about it. Have you had a biospy done? If not you need to do so ASAP.

Hello,
Try to get to one of the cancer treatment centers in a major metropolitan area and get further opinions about your situation. Fortunately, I live near New York city. Memorial Sloan-Kettering has the Kimmel Center which focuses on urological cancers. The treatment, care and attention I got there was excellent. But, on the positive side, they see so many patients they are on the leading edge in terms of treatment. I had a tumor removed from my left Kidney last October. Good luck to you.

Sharon you are very brave and you seem to be on top of your condition. I must beg of you from personal experience with my mother don't let them wait with tests, tell them you need the tests now and go over all possible options.

Hi Sharon,
I just had a single tumour removed off my right kidney. My Eurologist would not biopsy while the tumour is in me as he said it is like opening a can of worms. He said if any of the cells remained in the kidney it would/ could cause other tumours. He removed it (4cm mass). If I were you I would be pushing to have it out. Mine was removed by a partial right nephrectomy laprascopically. Much faster recovery than regular surgery. Just my input but please push to get the mass removed. Seabird

I to keep being told differnt things. I have very bad pain in the kidney are ont he right side and also the belly right side and have had this pain for several months. PLus from time to time I get this burning cramping pain that is a 10 plus. I went to the doc last week, a walk in clinic they of course did a urine test it was neg except for lots of blood. Set up a cat scan and they lady showed me the screen and what was wrong. My right kidney is enlarged and aslo the tube so far down. BUT I get a phone call tonight that the reader of the test said all looked good except for the left kidney and it has a cyst. ANywya I went over it all with this nurse, and I told her it's not like I had "a" Pain and ran to the dr., that I had been suffering for several month and thought I had stones. ANyway she pulled my chart while on the phone with me and looked at the pic's from the scan and said you are right the right kidney is enlarged, so I will put a call in for him to review it again. I am amazed some times at the peole that are reading these test. '
I have been missed diagnoise just a few to many times, the last time it almost cost me my life. I am very concerned.........

I concur with Seabird, blood in the urine and back pain are signs that should not be ignored, nor should any competent nephrologist be waiting three months with those signs. Last June I started experiencing the same symptoms and by July 10th I had a complete radical nephrectomy (removed my left kidney) due to a RCC tumor. If left untreated RCC can spread to the brain, lungs and bone. Either urge your specialists to immediately address your concerns or seek out other specialists. Best of luck to the both you.

I've been on hiatus for a week or so; but like the others, get all the medicos off their butts, and have the tops in your area/or OUT of your area read your test, and get it right!True, biopsy isn't the way to go, but check out the sites as told by others here. Knowledge=Power for health. Also, go to the Kidney Cancer Association website, ALTHOUGH I am NOT going to say that is what you have, they thought I did, and it turned out I did not.God bless, Hunter.

If nothing is being done, in my fiance case it seem to take forever to get things started, i had to become Tim's avocate and get him a surgeon right away, they told me 2 months to see the surgeon, well i wouldn't except that he was in the surgeons office the very next day.....My Tim has stage 4 metastatic kidney cancer, into his lungs and a rib metastis....I'm not trying to scare you but you have to be your own avocate in pushing the doctors to do something now....Have you seen a urologist yet ?? If not get an app. and take your catscan disks and Mri disk and reports from the hospital and get that app. right away push your way in...Tim didn't get his surgery until Nov, his first surgery was canceled in Sept and i called and called until they put him on the cancelation list....The point of this is this is your life get angry if you have too, worrying about this is getting you nowhere, tell yourself this is the #1 thing to take care of, i'm sure a urologist will help you and having everything there for him/her to look at right away, you won't have to go back unless he orders more test, you'll already be ahead of your self and a head of the urologist....Then he'll know what to do....If you already have a urologist and he hasn't done anything get another one, even if you have to travel....

It took a while to get answers about my kidney cancer as well. It seemed like I had to push the surgeon to get anything going. I am glad I did. Due to some complications, my recovery was longer than expected, and I had a full open nephrectomy as well. I am not sure why, but it took five weeks from the time they knew I had cancer, until the surgery, during that time I had no meds except for the pain pills, because the back pain was unreal! Keep on them and stay positive.
