I wrote the below post earlier. I did not say much about ourselves. We live on the Gulf coast of Alabama near Pensacola, FL.
I am feeling VERY frustrated and need to find a treatment center for Tom. I believe this thing is growing fast. We followed the cryo ablation for five yrs, and watched it shrink to nothing!! But NOW! It's back big time. We don't remember what/if the cryo doc took a biopsy or not! I'm remembering that they tried...and the cancer had a thick "crust" and he said he couldn't get a good piece of it before freezing it. We need a difinitive diagnosis and a plan!! We've wasted two weeks already! We will try to travel if need be! We have medicare only for insurance. Will that be a problem? Husband Tom newly diagnosed with metastatic kidney ca. We’ve had just awful results trying to get even a biopsy done, let alone start finding a treatment. We are searching and searching to find out where we should go for treatment, second opinion, etc. Mets are from kidney throughout soft tissue, psoas and oblique back muscles, at least two lymph nodes and aorta “adenopathy”. We have GOT to get moving on this, and I’m exhausted, trying to find out where the best place is for treatment/diagnosis/plan for his care!! He had cryo-ablation 6yrs ago….which obviously was a big mistake!!! I am joining as many support groups so as to try and get some patients input on this dreadful diagnosis. Sarah..
I can't answer you in detail, but I know the University of Texas at Houston has a World Class Cancer Center. You are not all that far away from Houston. There may be other good ones closer to you od which I'm unfamiliar, but I do know the Anderson Center in Houston is Great. Also, I', being treated at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. That may be close enough for you as well. Dave

Sarah, either call the KCA or if you are comfortable with it, go on their hotline which is online at their websitevon Monday. I'm here in Texas and Dave is right about MD Anderson, I know several folks who were treated there. Hugs of support here! Hunter.
