Advice:
How can I get my Mom some mental help?

She is really depressed over her stage 4 RCC, which is completely understandable. She is so depressed she is not eating, drinking or showering. I'm not sure what to do and how to get her to seek some help. She is not completely honest with her oncologist because she doesn't want him to give her more bad news. How can you help someone who is crippled by fear?

" You could go with your mom to the oncologist, and tell him about this depression. This doctor can prescribe something and/or refer her for counseling.
So sorry this is happening. This diagnosis is life changing for all of us, but there is life with cancer. I will be praying for your mom.

Hugs from SC,
Ingrid "

" I get it believe me I am a teacher so I am off right now and all my extra time has not been beneficial at all. I to have been sleeping too much and cried for most of the day yesterday. you cant force mom to get help she has to want it as you probably know. I wonder if I would be trying as hard as I am if not for my 14 year old daughter and my 2 grandkids! just let her know you love her and help her find a reason to get up every morning! "

" she has given me a relaxation CD for moments of calm an has given me some hypnosis sessions. I will leave you with one little stratagy she left me with three weeks ago. ( after the Brain Met diagnosis) she sI can totally understand how your Mum is feeling its can be sometimes very take over your every living moment. I started counselling very quickly after I was diagnosed nearly two and a half years ago. Yep still living with the beast within and have just been dignosed with a Brain met.. It really does help and well worth pushing for. Im not taking anti depresseants as yet. so dont have the zombie sleeping issues satisfied with th stratagies she has given me to enable to understand my feelings and that everything Im feeling is totally understandable. My councellor is wonderful aid. only allow yourself a designated amount of time per day to think and worry about your plight lets say 1 hour. After that time is over STOP THATs IT ENOUGH. Try to divert your mind into a different activity. get out of the house go for a walk. sort a sock drawer. read a book anything but sit and worry. dont let it take over your every living moment. Enjoy being here right now. Was not sure where in the world you are but my counselling was through Macmillan in the UK. "
