im having a really tough time right now, flashbacks and nightmares are killing me slowly. i usually see my counsellor once a week but she had to cancel this week because she had to attend a funeral, when the receptionist rang to tell me she added that there is no use jumping up and down because the counsellor would be at a funeral, made me feel like i wasnt worth anything wasnt worth her time (the receptionist i mean not the counsellor) and that made the flashbacks worse because some of the people that abused me made me feel the same way I feel o much shame and guilt and like a dirty good for nothing whore right now and i just want it all to go away now i have to wait another week before i can see the counsellor and maybe get some help to slow the flashbacks or at least deal with them better this may sound strange but when i have flashbacks sometimes i can physically feel what i felt when it was happening at the time even though it hasnt happened in the last month due to my abuser being away for a while... im sorry to waste your time and bother you with this just dont know what the hell to do anymore i just want to be able to have even an hour with no flashbacks and no nightmares sorry again for being a bother thanks for reading if you got to here take care everyone and stay safe Posted on 07/01/09, 10:07 am |

1. Find a positive activity to fill your time and mind.
2. Flashbacks flash at you to remind you of some challenge you faced you didn't feel adequate to overcome. 3. If you can look back at the flashback, replay it, think about what you could do different next time. 4. Take a martial arts class, no matter how poor you are. 5. Improve your upper body strength. Change your future response to the same event. Then the flashbacks can go away. You are not responsible for the actions of others. Only your own actions. Taking responsibility for the actions of others will mess you up completely. Find empowerment.

Your not wasting my time you are a human being who has been hurt and you have a right to feel what your feeling it is not easy to go through what your going through.Things will get better in time and your doing good as for the receptionist some people just don't care what they say or do Do not let her bother you she seems very uncaring and that is her problem not yours Keep up the good work and believe in yourself. I understand how you're feeling,I get flashbacks too and I understand what you mean about feeling it because I do too. It's like reliving it all over again. This is some advice that I was given to help with flashbacks.
1.Try to surround the image with a frame. 2.Write the date it happened in the image-this reinforces it is in the past and not happening now. 3.Try to push the framed image away into the distance. 4.Try to see the distant framed image as on a t.v screen. 5.Try to make the image black and white. All these things can help to reduce the intensity. I will be honest,it can be hard to do it at first,I'm still trying. It can help to visualise it at a calm time and try those things so when you have a flashback,you can implement what you've been practising. Plus if you ever need to talk,all of us are here to help and I'm always happy to listen. Take care x
