Rape scenes in movies
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
I was raped by my then boyfriend 5 years ago, and I still break down every time I see a rape scene on t.v. or in movies, or reading about it in a book. It makes all my feelings and thoughts about my rape come back. I usually cry or hyperventilate. Does any body else have a problem with this? What can I do to make seeing this tolerable? I don't intentially watch movies with rape scenes in them now, but some times you don't know its coming.

" OctoberSunsets- I totally agree. One time I flipped out on a bunch of kids because one of them came out of a test and was like "man, that test raped me." "

" I just have to go and make myself a coffee or something, otherwise I'll end up sitting there and squirming through the rest of the film. I don't get outwardly emotional about it, just very tense and 'fidgety' until I've got up and done something physical - even if it is just making a drink! "

" Want to hear something sick? I was raped and abused as a child, to the point I thought it was normal.... Now when I see a rape scene in a movie, it turns me on.... Sick huh? "

" Thanks for all the input; I really appreciate it. My counselor told me that when I react badly to those scenes in movies it is because I am ignoring what happened to me. But why wouldn't I try to ignore it? Why would I want to dwell on it and try to analyze it? Once again, thanks for the help every one. "

" This aso happens to me too. It has been many years but even now, certain smells, movies, scenes, tastes, sounds, but especially smells really bother me and brings the emotions back. Our brains are very unique and even though its still emotional I think it helps with the healing process for me. "

" #13, it's not sick, it's sort of normal for the circumstances. Your experiences as a child will have affected the way you're wired, so to speak, but it doesn't mean that you're 'sick' or 'bad'. "

" the same thing happens to me and i just start to cry and shake and my b/f just holds me and tries to comfort me, the same thing when someone talks about it joakinly or i hear about it on the news. There is nothing you can do about it just try the best you can to work through it, believe me i wish there was something that could be done. Im here to talk anytime. "

" Before I was raped I could watch the scenes in the movies ... but now I too flip out when I see them.. there is one that I like what happened after and watch what happens to these bastards... "I Spit on your grave" she waits and get back at each one of the men that raped her... that is a good movie! "
