I am here today because I know some one who has been raped when she was younger. She now has suffering from some severe mental problems now. She has never told anyone but me and it is very hard for her to talk about. It seems to me that she blames herself for what happened and this has manifested it’s self as “spirits” who tell her to hurt and that she should kill herself. I have told her to join this support group because of some of the disturbing things she has told me; but she will not. I have no experience and do not know what to do.

That's a difficult one. However, what are her reasons for not coming on DS? Perhaps reassure her that it is totally anonymous if you want it to be and from my experience a safe and very helpful and supportive group. Infact it's helped me immensely. What has she got to loose? Perhaps go on it together and you show her around the site. BUT don't pressure her just encourage and reassure. Hope that helps and I admire your care and concern for her. Please be patient with her. Your friend sounds like she may have a severe case of manic depression...some of it may be chemical & other part is she needs to be evaluated by a professional...how old is she? What happened to her attacker? Was he ever incarserated? This is just a couple thots I wanted to throw u... Wutever u do, find help for her SOON! Hugs & prayers...

I have to tell you that I appreciate that you are honest with yourself about the fact that you are over your head here. You are doing the right thing, and sound like a wonderful friend, but be careful with how much of this you take on. I had a friend that has been through so much, and because of my deep love for her, I really tried to save her. she's my best friend, but I had to let go of her at one point, because she was not helping herself at all. I mean we stayed friends, but emotionally her stuff was killing me and I became severly depressed myself. I know how much you care about her. The best thing you can do is continue to encourage her to get a support system. This is just one way. I will be out of town tomorrow till Sunday, but will have access to my My Space at some point. I will be looking for maybe a friend request from you or her or both. Just tell me who to look for, so I know. I usually deny people I don't already know. Blessings, Rosemary

my advice to you is to show her DS. have her sit next to you and read some of the discussion things and the comments on them. Let her see how supportive everyone on here is.
