My father was diagnosed last August shortly after the loss of his sister, my aunt, to PF. He has also lost a cousin since his diagnosis and his mother, my grandmother, to PF several years back. I watched my grandmother struggle and didn't know about my aunt's diagnosis until she was in the hospital with pneumonia and past away suddenly. Im not sure what I fear most, watching my dad struggle like my grandmother or him leaving us suddenly like my aunt. He is currently in the hospital with pneumonia and has made progress in his recovery. He in going through the process to get a lung transplant, something my grandmother and my dad's cousin did not pursue. I am just now starting to really deal with his diagnosis and running "what ifs" through my head. Just looking for someone who understand and has similar experience.

I think there are studies being conducted with familial IPF. Unfortuantely, I cannot remember which hospitals but if you look up centers of excellence you will be able to look up their research and clinical trials.
