My wife was diagnosed with PF. Was immediately put on heavy doses of prednisone.
Her condition continued to get worse. Was put in hospital improved some. Sent home. Got worse in a short time. Back to the hospital. This repeated for about 6 months. Her need for oxygen kept increasing dramatically over this time. Her breathing problems really got bad. With coughing and high glucose problems. We finally were able to get her to a specialist at a major hospital. It was discovered that due the excessive use of prednisone, she had devoloped undiagnosed ailments due the reduction in antimmune functions. She had a bad case of the shingles, a viral infection in her lungs, and had developed a fungus in her lungs. Unfortunately the problems were discovered to late and she did not survive the 7th month. My recommendation would be not to use steriods for any length of time. You may create more medical problems than you can recover from.
