Sorry but I havea few more questions and no one to ask....

My doctor is on vacation this week and the doctor on call wants me to alternated coumadin dosages between 7.5mg and 10mg. Is there any good reason for this? Why not just take a dosage in between the two (like 8.5 or 9? If any of you read my earlier post about my appointment then you'll understand that I don't exactly trust these people.

I also have a really bad cold that has led to an unproductive cough. I've been coughing so hard that it's starting to hurt. I'm worried that with my INR at 3.36 I might be bruising my insides. This was the reason that I had that appointment the other day and the only thing he told me to take was claritin. I've been taking cough drops and using vicks vaporub. Are the cough drops ok? Is there anything else I can take for a cough?

" I also alternate doses on different days. I think it is simply a matter of making it easier to take the pill as a whole and not having to break them in half or more to get the right dosage. It is more precise and you get the same mg. per week.
As far as your cough, I would call them back and ask about cough medicine. Tell them that your cough has gotten much worse. Personally, I dont think over the counter cough meds work that well. I usually need something with codeine if its a bad cough. I am not sure if thats OK with Warfarin but they will let you know.
I am a firm believer that contacting your doctor about issues like this is part of their job and we shouldn't feel hesitant in doing so. I used to feel like I was a bother, but now I am more assertive and I find that most of the time they really don't mind. I know your dealing with a difficult person but dont let it stop you from taking care of yourself. Give them a call, it's important to your health and recovery. Hope your feeling better.

" Hi Mecab,
I had a really bad cough a few weeks ago too. It started with a very sore throat and swollen glands and I thought I was coming down with a cold - but - no runny nose or anything - it just turned into a hacking cough and a croaky voice.
I took a whole bottle of cough medicine and then someone I work with told me to take ...
Apple cider vinegar mixed with honey !!! I'm not usually a great believer in these alternative remedies but it actually worked within a couple of days!
Mix equal measures of the runny sort of honey with the vinegar and mix together with some warm water then drink it. If you can't stand the vinegar taste just add more honey - I did! When I went to work I mixed up a small bottle full and took it with me to have little drinks throughout the day. After a couple of days I actually forgot to drink it as the cough had almost gone.
If nothing else works - give it a try - at least I don't think there can be anything in it that would affect your INR! Love Sandi x "
