Hello I am about 6 months post PE diagnosis and 3 months dissolved PE. I swear i think the chest pain and muscle aches got worse these past couple of months. I even had a ct scan done to make sure i did not have any new clots. My docs are pretty confused as to what is causing me all this pain and my pe and are investigating some possible heart issues i have been complaining about. Anyway in the meantime one doctor perscribed me ibuprofen to take with valium for pain. He also told me to take baby asprin as needed. This doctor was aware that i take 41mgs of warfarin a week and that I also take atenolol for heart. I want to hear from yall about this. What have you heard from docs about taking ibuprofen with warfarin?
Thanks guys and hope all is well.

" I was told not to take any ibuprofen or aspirin, but one doctor at the hospital told me that they can prescribe it if they think it is necessary. No self-administration, but controlled intake is ok. If in doubt, check with the pharmacist or double check with doc! "

" Wow I am really surprised your doctor suggested that. All doctors I have seen (which is around 5 now) as well as books and articles i have read strongly suggest NEVER taking NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve - basically any antiinflammatories) and NEVER aspirin which further thins blood. All of these medications can counteract the work your warfarin is doing.

Also, the chest pain that you get from PEs is usually because the lung tissue is reforming and the nerve endings are sensitive. It can be other things, but nothing that an anti inflammatory would help.

The pain does get better as your lungs heal. I could not yawn or sneeze for weeks, and now I can :)

I suffer from very bad headaches. I have been given a muscle relaxant for the tension headaches and nasal steroids for the sinus problems. But as bad as it gets, every doctor has said no no no to Ibuprofen, migraine meds, etc. Pharmacists will tell you the only thing that is safe on coumadin is Tylenol, but you have to take it as prescribed because it is not good for your liver.

I have been looking into this a lot recently because my headaches were out of control. I would seriously suggest NOT taking the Ibuprofen. "
