Hello I am about 6 months post PE diagnosis and 3 months dissolved PE. I swear i think the chest pain and muscle aches got worse these past couple of months. I even had a ct scan done to make sure i did not have any new clots. My docs are pretty confused as to what is causing me all this pain and my pe and are investigating some possible heart issues i have been complaining about. Anyway in the meantime one doctor perscribed me ibuprofen to take with valium for pain. He also told me to take baby asprin as needed. This doctor was aware that i take 41mgs of warfarin a week and that I also take atenolol for heart. I want to hear from yall about this. What have you heard from docs about taking ibuprofen with warfarin?
Thanks guys and hope all is well.

" I was told not to...tylenol only. Ibuprofen increases bleeding risks. "

" if your INR is being regularly checked then they can adjust dosage for effects of the warfarin, most drug interactions with warfarin increase or decrease the uptake so closer monitoring is required "

" Same here, Ibuprofen and warfarin together is not recommended.
The Ibuprofen will make your blood MORE coagulant..
The other person to check with, which I find more reliable is your pharmacist, they deal with drugs all the time...

Mark, that is if you have a Dr. that actually knows what is happening, after being here and hearing the horror stories, I tend to go with the NO. "

" As mentioned, IBUPROFEN is a anti-platelet inhibitor so acts as a anticoagulant of sorts for arterial clotting. It can increase your bleeding which is why they don't recommend it. Same with aspirin. "

" My coumadin clinic said it was ok if it is taken sparingly. I've only taken it once or twice for a bad headache. I was taking baby asprin prior to PEs/DVT and was told to continue taking them. I've been on Warfarin since 3/3/09. "

" Ditto what Retired Navy said. Ibuprofen or aspirin not recommended in combination with coumadin. Ibuprofen sort of makes platlets less sticky. They generally tell you not to use it for a week or 2 before surgery for this reason. I remember when my kids had their tonsils out they were not allowed to have ibuprofen for 2 weeks before surgery. Blessings, Teri "

" My chemist will not even sell ibuprofen to me, saying that it would be negligent. The risks are considered too high. "
